Strange.. I had my top replaced due to air leak. the shop put a direct 10 sp shifter on it. you could not shift properly with it. dont know how anyone could use a different type shifter on a super 10 & get it to function properly. 1.3 mil miles on my super 10 & not a thing replaced, other than a 1st time clutch at 1.1 mil miles.

I use the old fashioned splitter knob you just pull up and push down on my super 10 .

That way I can run the old fashioned cool sparkling kind. I guess I am still old fashioned at heart :biggrin_25523:

dad's truck had a super10.. it was nice but i wouldn't want to own one..you're pretty much at the mercy of the transmission and it's syncronizers...

once the splitter valve started leaking air going into the grove.. by the time we got in there and i had hooked up to the load we couldn't get it out of the high side..

so the entire trip out of the grove we drove with the diff locked.. gearing was 3.90 and anything higher then first and it would kick rocks and that dog jus aint gonna hunt.. you'll find yourself laying chains and carrying wood really quick if that happens under load.

if i manage to get my own truck i'll shoot for a 13 or 15spd, that way i'll try to run 3.70 or somethin lower.. who knows what my mpg will be like.. can only wish for the best.

My first truck has a Super10 and it's very easy to learn and use. Most days I drive it like a 7 speed - 1,2,4,6,8,9,10. But my loads are always under 40k lbs. For heavier loads I understand that the straight 10 is a stronger tranny and the 13 is more flexible.

Outstanding. I drove an 18-speed and guess I had dumb luck with getting it to work.

    Most of the trucks, with the exception of the 18-speed and 1 automatic, have been 10-speeds. 9 times out of 10, I skip shift. 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 if I am loaded & 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 when I'm empty.

I preselect all button shifts also just like the Eaton video and the Eaton driver's instruction guide describe. One other benefit of the Super 10 has to be longer clutch life. Since there are fewer lever shifts than a normal 10 speed it has to be better for the clutch.

Actually the cost of a clutch is minor.
    Maybe $1500-2000,
    every 500,000 to a million miles !!!!
