Constant break down

    With out jumping to conclusions I think you may be a tad sensitive there buddy, seeing my post was to help educate, oh how I wished I had someone to give me tips and advice instead of having to learn the hard way at the school of hard knocks. Even experienced drivers are given the same advice on hooking up trailers, as some seem to not bother to check if there is a gap between the king pin and the trailer, which is ok if your hooking up the same truck to the same trailer, not ok if someone else in a different truck dropped it. Then again it could of been a faulty set of jaws that were worn out that can also happen too, although that would not be your fault though would it? Again this can be tried out by seeing if there is any play between the fifth wheel and the king pin another part of the pre - start arrangement. As far as the original post goes about " constant break downs" it does happen my current job is exactly like that yet i'm an experienced driver, yet not just my truck but a lot of the fleet can be seen broken down on the side of the highway which is not a good look for the company the other day we had at least 15 break downs, we drive a set round of about 350 km each way hauling Iron Ore from the Mines to the Port.

    I'd just simply like to give the OP some advice. I've been on this site for several years now. And, it is never a good idea on this site to reply to anyone who is trying to lend advice in any manner other than with appreciation. If do not think the reply applies, simply don't respond. To reply in any way that may seem critical to the advice is simply not a good idea. There are lots of drivers here who've been driving for many many years and have forgotten more than we may ever know. They'll chew you up and spit you out. I've seen it many times.
    Keep in mind, even if you think the reply doesn't apply, is wrong, or whatever, realize the person giving the advice is benevolently trying to be helpful. And, others read it besides you, so it may help someone else instead.
    As to this specific issue, NONE of us can be reminded too much about 5th wheel attachment, tug testing, etc. I've been driving alittle over 2 years now and have been fortunate enough to have not dropped a trailer, YET. But, I read the whole thing, even though it didn't give me anything I didn't already know, it was nonetheless helpful. Is was intended to be helpful, not condescending or belittling. It also doesn't matter that you don't think it applied to the question you were asking.
    NEVER be too proud (or lazy) in this industry. It's just not a good idea and can easily end up biting you right in the butt.

    All that said, as to your original question. So far for me, truck and trailer problems have cropped up on occasion. It does seem like they happen in bunches. I may go several months with everything being fine, and then for a month or two I may have several problems seemingly back to back. I'm satisfied in the way my company (I'm a Swiftie) has handled everything and their general maintenance and upkeep of their trucks and trailers. They're not perfect, but no company is.

    You are going to have breakdowns and equipment issues. You might go a year with no problems. You might get a years worth of problems right at the start. My tractor was in the shop for 2 days then as soon as I hit the road I saw smoke from the trailer brakes and had to turn back. 2 more days down. It happens.

    If the company has high mileage trucks and beat up trailers , you're gonna have loads of issues. If they use cheap retreads , you're gonna have tire issues etc. I was hired with a company in Texas , they had a brand new yard and brand new building. Trucks were all absolute garbage . Spent 3 days trying to find a truck that could even make it out of the yard. I realized it was a losing situation and told them to forget . I'm not jeopardizing my CDL to drive their garbage

    I feel it. I should have left when they couldn't find a truck that worked well in the very beginning. I just signed on with a new company though so hopefully things work a little better
