I have 11 straight yrs OTR experience but haven't driven in the last 2 yrs.
Among 20 or so companies I called, only one said I would need minimum 2 yrs experience within the last 36 months. All the other ones didn't even require a refresher.
They take in consideration how much experience one has.
BTW, next year no school will be able to offer a refresher. Any one wanting a refresher will have to apply for the whole CDL program and be tested again.

Why is that? Some sort of new regulation on DOT/FMSCA?

If they really want to protect the motoring public, they should make sure the mega-carriers are properly training their new drivers. Some of the things you can see in the "Bonehead Truckers" and similar videos are pretty shocking. There are some new drivers who never should have been issued a CDL.

As for myself, I feel A LOT more confident now than I did when I first hit the road as a newbie, even though I did receive good training from Roehl back then. If I didn't think I could hit the road as a good, safe, capable driver, I wouldn't go back out.

DRTDEVL, I tried to send you a message, but it said I could not start a conversation with you for some reason.

For simply being overweight? Did he cite any other related medical ailments? Like high blood pressure or anything just that you’re overweight? Because as you know, all us truck drivers were like professional athlete fit out here. You’ll have to look long and hard to find an overweight truck driver. Lol
All of us out here, like 999/1000 could lose a few pounds. Just sayin!

I figured it out. My functionality was removed because I now work with a recruiting department as a part of my job. Apparently the powers that bne here will not allow a broker or recruiter to have private conversations with other members. I can see how they would want to protect them, but answering questions in private? Oh, well.

I work for McFarland Truck Lines in Austin, MN. You can find us on the web.
