Hey @Zangief ... how is your company search doing?
I have spent quite a lot of time trying to find something to do other than trucking but so far I have no ideas and nothing really appeals to me...
So, I called a Crete recruiter today and may visit their terminal in Lenoir City, TN tomorrow to check it out, see the trucks, visit the shop and talk with a few drivers...
Recruiter asked me how much experience I have and said I would need to go on the road with a trainer for 1 or 2 weeks after orientation... said it's not team driving, truck stops for 10 hr breaks and they pay $2,000 per week... After that, if everything goes well, I can pick whatever dedicated account they have or go 48 states if I wish...

How long was your break from driving that they are requiring a trainer?

    Hi Rocks,

I am familiar with Crete, but don't know a ton about them. I used to see their trucks out there quite often when I was on the road, so I always assumed they were a pretty big company. For that reason, I have always kind of thought of them as a "mega carrier," similar to Swift, and others like that. I think they are affiliated with another company by the name of Schaefer. I've been hoping to find a company that is a little smaller, but you never know. Maybe Crete is just fine, I just haven't checked them out.

It's not fun to think about having to go out again with a trainer, especially for two weeks, but at least they pay you well while you are out there. They sound like they are worth checking out.

One company I was hoping to get hired by is SAV Express. They would have been an absolutely perfect fit for what I was looking for. I live just a short 20-minute drive from their home base in Coon Rapids, MN. They supposedly give you a lot of miles and almost no Northeast freight. Pay isn't at the top of the industry, but everything else seems pretty top-notch.

It didn't work out for me right now because of an issue they had with my DOT physical. I'm planning to keep them on my list to try again if I'm looking for a company to work for in the future.

Hey @Zangief ... I agree with you about them being a "mega"... They have about 5,500 trucks (Crete and Shaffer)... no idea how many trailers... Swift has about 15,000 trucks...
Crete safety record with DOT / FMCSA is much better than Swift.

I too didn't want to ever work for a mega again... my last company had less than 35 drivers when I joined and less than 25 when I left...
It's so much easier and simpler and faster to deal with a smaller company than a big one... But I can't find what I want in any small company I have looked around here...
Crete has not only a very good safety record but their pay seems to be very good.
I will visit one of their terminals today and check them some more. Talking to drivers is a great way to know more.
Good luck with your company research...

What about Danny Herman Trucking or Variant? They're not small, but seem to be ok.

    Rocks and Zangief Thank this.
