Agree but life is short. And if I had a dollar for the many I’ve known over the years who worked tails off waiting for “tomorrow” yo retire then dropped dead a year or so later after retirement, I’d be rich. This happens to many people.

I think there needs to be a balance. Also, With the current direction of this country and the current inflation that hasn’t even peaked yet, who knows what all those savings will be worth by the time I reach retirement. Probably nothing. Lol

Thats something ive thought about lately. Id like to have at least a few years of retirement before I croak. Dad retired at 59 and lived to be 91. Doubt Ill match that but stranger things have happened -

Right now I work one week on, one week off. My run is a triangle from Henderson NV--->Everett WA--->DuPont WA--->Las Vegas NV. I leave on Monday mornings and am back in Vegas by Saturday late morning. I love it. Nothing beats being able to drive without it always having to be a hot load. On Tuesdays I stay at the casino in Pendleton, OR and play the poker tourney there. Wednesday I deliver in Everett and then head down to DuPont and stay at the shipper for my 10. After loading in the morning I head back to Pendleton and play the Thursday night tourney. Loving it right now...until Winter Hell breaks loose up there!

    i would not
do that, once retired, im not going back. Im sure your over 65 yrs old, i am also. getting back in the truck after 6 months off, would
be tough. If you can do it , go for it. good luck.

Doesn't necessarily involve wo ett king for a company. Get your own truck, get your own authority, sign up for load boards to book loads yourself, and you can work as much or little as you want. Including working your butt off for 6 months to have enough money to take 6 months off.

When I was worked for TransAm, I heard of a driver that did this. He'd sign a 6 month lease, stay on the road the whole 6 months, than take off 6 months and repeat. Never met him though so no clue if it was true.

But having this cycle can't be a long term solution
