My former trainer always pulls my leg on things, so i do take it with a grain of salt. My boss is not my former trainer. My boss was not at work when this happened yesterday. But my boss was talking on his cell to another employee who was standing outside when this happened. My boss said that he heard the train whistle himself . He threatened to fire me over it. I still think it probably happened though. As i said earlier, I must have been deep in lala land.

Always atleast slow down and look, but I got a hard time believing you didn't feel or hear a train coming. Unless you blew over the tracks at a high speed with no hesitation

Sounds like you could be on an episode of I shouldn’t be alive.

Not trying to give you a hard time.

But d amn son. Not only could you of been killed but the workers on the train.

Fate smiled upon you and gave you a freebie. Next time if you let there be a next time we may all see you on the evening news. So learn from it. Be better. And if
you are religious get on your knees and say thank you up there.

No one got hurt and you learned an important lesson about trains, they can be deceptive. I wouldn't write this off to you being in la la land, even when you're fully aware the audio and visual cues can be deceptive, shadows can mess with you and sometimes sound doesn't travel the way we think it should.

This un-monitered x-ing is close to your terminal, right ? So, trucks coming in/out cross it daily. So, your co. should have a policy on "how to". Also, the trains coming by (what kind) should know there's a trucking co. close-by and the crossing is un-monitered, so train engineer needs to be cautious. Kinda' common sense. Un-marked crossings need to stop, be safe.

And the prosecutor says "You say you were in LALA Land?" And the jury says give that poor soul in the cab of the train $5 gazillion dollars.
I don't think even Chinatown could find you another job.
    Complacency is a KILLER.

i used to teach in an industrial complex for the Navy ship builder.

way too many crossings at about every 50 feet or so it would seem.

some had cross bars only, some had gates only.

    many more had nothing.

students were taught, STOP at all crossings, have BOTH right and left windows ROLLED DOWN, ALL noise in cab OFF, like CB radio, AM/FM radio...and then...

    LISTEN for the train.

then proceed if nothing from BOTH directions.

    where you failed..??

    the ROLLED UP windows,

NEVER ASSUME a railroad crossing is dead...

    unless you see this sign...

Exempt signs are intended to inform drivers of commercial motor vehicles transporting passengers or hazardous materials that a stop is not required at certain designated railroad crossings, except when rail traffic is approaching or occupying the crossing or the driver's view is blocked.
