Would you pick up a hitchhiker on your way? Our group is conducting a study to see if truck drivers would be willing to pick up a hitchhiker in the direction that they are going in.

Almost all companies disallow it. Even if a company doesn't specifically disallow it there are regulations prohibiting any passengers without specific approval for the truck authority. That leaves only owner operators and very very few will take that liability.

Not happening. With all the bs accusations going around and messed up lawsuits. One slip of the finger or foot in or on the cab and your looking at a headache.

best to leave the hikers to hiking.

I saw a hitchhiker last year who was walking on the interstate soaking wet like he had just been in the swamp. This was in Louisiana.

Guy was muscle-bound and looked really angry. Possibly he was on drugs. When it became clear I wasn't going to slow down and stop, he screamed at me and threw a shoe at my truck (he was walking down the interstate with one bare foot and already had the shoe in his hand)

Cant imagine anyone wanting to help that guy.

In the "old days" it was common. Lots of drivers were lonely and wanted someone to talk to. I never did, but I was really tempted leaving Loves in Gallup, N.M. one morning at 4 am. 2 young chicks on the west bound on-ramp hitching, No luggage and really dark. With my luck, boyfriends hiding in the shadows and I'm dead. Got my wits about me and continued on.
