I'm new to trucking, and I can't keep myself awake on long drives. How do you guys keep yourselves awake?

Good rest, pacing of myself, not eating too heavy, and a some caffienated sodie water. I want to to talk about pacing though. You don't have to drive 500 miles non stop. Take a longer run, and break it up. If it's 600 miles for instance, do 200 at a time and take a break. That way you can build up some driving stamina. As you get more acclimated to the lifestyle, then maybe you can do 250 or 300 miles and stop. I'd say start with 200 because that ain't but 3 hrs. Also keep some snacks that can give you a sugar rush or big time energy. For me, I keep peanuts in the truck. They give me a lot of energy. Certain things may work differently for you, but try different things til you get a hint.

5 hour energy, mio energy, garlic supplements (or chew fresh :shaking2:), eat rock salt so you can drink water and not have to pee so much, sunflower seeds, smoke a pipe. if doing all that and still keep teleporting across lanes, time to pull tf over and take a 20 minute nap before forcing upon yourself a change of careers

when i was ahead of schedule (on my last job), i took naps at one of my customers docks. i worked nights, so that was easy, no one there to kick me out.

when i ran the road, i'd stop for a quick "power nap" of about 15 to 20 minutes tops.....any more that 20 minutes, and when you do wake up, you're grouchy and more tired.

do not drink caffeinated drinks before your bed time. eat light meals as to not weigh heavily on your stomach as you try to sleep.

make sure the room (or sleeper) is as dark as possible.

make sure you have the temperature that is comfortable for you, not too hot, not too cool...

sometimes if i needed a "boost" of energy? i have a couple of peppermint pattie candies.....

too many other variables to do, eat or drink, everyone has his/her own thing for staying awake.

but if you get REALLY drowsy.?

PULL THE HECK OVER and take a nap..!!!!!!!

Light meal or not our daily vitamin needs aren’t being met. B6-B12 are keys for energy, reason why energy drinks have that in the 1000%.

I take vitamins daily, light meal before my trip, good nights rest and coffee.

    bryan21384 and GYPSY65 Thank this.
