Patience brother, patience. The pendulum swings one way and then the other. It just takes a long time to change and getting angry doesn't make it go faster.
Hey, we aren't hero's anymore?

I think most people get along just fine. The vocal few such as the author of that article are the ones that stir the pot. Perhaps it makes them feel important.

He was full blood Chinese but born in this country of Cantonese parents. He would not allow English to be spoken in his house although he himself spoke perfect English with no accent.
He owned a lot of property and many businesses but very seldom would he deal directly with a person of European ancestry. He'd send his subordinates to do whatever was required but he would not address anyone but a fellow Chinese unless he absolutely had to. He belonged to a Tong but refused to be a member of Elks, Moose, Kiwanis, or any other service organization.
Despite all this he became quite wealthy.
Imagine his dismay when his oldest daughter fell in love with and married a man who was one half American Indian, one quarter African American, and one quarter Irish. I don't know for sure because he never talked to me, not one word all his life, but I think the Irish blood bothered him more than the other two. It was understood that a marriage would be arranged by her father to someone of his choosing. Someone Chinese. He was beyond furious.
He cut off all contact with his daughter and refused to allow her to visit her mother or sisters in his home. He refused to attend any of her school graduations, even medical school when she got her MD.
He would not acknowledge his grandchildren in any way. They weren't pure Chinese and to him that was anathema.
For the rest of his life, and he lived to be very old, he never mentioned his daughter's name, the names our children, or spared them so much as a kind word.
He never had a European in his house. He never went to the house of a non Chinese. Those who spoke badly of him, and there were many, waited to do so until after they were sure he was dead.
So, some people hate other people for no good reason and people call them racist. My former father in law hated everything that was not under his control. He hated everything that was not himself. Mostly, he just hated.
Racist doesn't quite describe whatever he was.Pamela1990, mjd4277, mp4694330 and 7 others Thank this. -
The thing is, most of us, I believe, are non-racist. And the USA is testament to that by and large. We get along. All the yelling of racism and finger pointing doesn’t really reflect that vast majority, it reflects those with the loudest bullhorns such as those in the media, and those that feel they can gain from it politically. Everyone should just turn it down a notch.Pamela1990, God prefers Diesels and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

My one grandfather was somewhat like that, but he hated Chinese, native indians, any middle eastern person, and especially homosexuals. My dad isn't nearly as radical as his dad was. But he has nothing much good to say about homosexuals, and that is meant as sarcasm. Truthfully my father believes that all homosexuals should be stoned to death. Parent/teacher night, i was in grade 5, upon meeting my teacher, papa realized that he was gay. Then a small rant, and we left. I was forbidden to return to school, until I was transferred to the other grade 5 class, taught by a heterosexual woman. I still remember that day, was concerned about my dad beating up my teacher. To this day, he has no respect for gay people. He broke our TV upon seeing a commercial come on where two guys were kissing. He punched the television hard, and that was that. About a week later he bought a new one, once he was calmer. The ad was for an airline, and we were told loudly, that for the rest of our lives, we were not allowed to fly on that airline. His upbringing has never left how he thinks to this day. -
Good. I'm not middle aged.Studebaker Hawk and Pamela1990 Thank this.
