Most likely won’t be canceled so just make a note saying exactly what you just posted on a future job application. I’d try to fight it anyways though in the future if unsure run across the lane closest to scale house. Other provinces like bc have a prepass lane that some confuse as a empty lane . Unless you see a sign stating empty lane it’s 50/50 on getting pulled over.

 

I think it kind of sucks how the officer decided to ticket you so earnestly, considering your level of experience. Next time, plead with the law official for leniency as you sincerely apologize, do not invoke ignorance or blame training; even though that's the most probable reason for your predicament.

Win win, nobody gets hurt, nobody loses any money or future job prospects, no bad feelings. Life goes on.

 

Not enforcement's job, they want money, not safe loads for roads and more competent drivers, what you stated was a win/lose (driver/officer)

It’s minor. I blew by the scale in Halton, Ontario and they chased me down and ticketed me. Insurance looks for things like Impaired, seatbelts and speeding. They show carelessness more than a simple mistake.

 

Ok, you blew right through the thing, but OP was simply in the wrong lane! I mean, he was right there, he pulled in the wrong lane, he made an honest mistake due to inexperience. Does that deserve a stiff fine? The scale cooper was a dick to him, let's be real. He took it out on a noob, or perhaps he was a noob himself aiming to please his bosses. Either way, the situation sucks and it doesn't paint anything happy for anyone. It could have been handled better as LoadOut mentioned.

When I had just started driving the lights were flashing at one those northern Ontario scales where they bring in trucks heading both directions on the highway at the same time. Truck heading the other direction was weighing when I pulled in. Not realizing they alternated I figured I had to go to the other end and cross the scale in the same direction the other guy was heading. Started heading around the back and officer was out and stopping me before I got halfway.

He was really cool about it, guessed I was new. We chatted for a bit, me asking some questions HOS and him asking me some questions about how I was liking driving and offering some advice. Never did actually get on the scale.

I've never had a bad experience at a scale house and I think most of them will treat you right unless you give 'em a reason not to but there's always the exception Sounds like the OP found the exception.

 

Its not a major safety breach so I would not worry to much about it specially with the huge driver shortage, I think you also go the wrong end of the stick there bud why could they not just let you do a u- turn and get it weighed? My guess is some other driver peeved the officer off earlier in the day and they took it out on you, that stuff does happen quite frequently. Yes you can contest it but if you use an attorney his/her fee would be greater then the ticket so why bother.
