Is there a site, link or method (short of calling every company) that one can use to see what carriers have terminals or yards near me (Binghamton, New York). A short commute is fine.
My intentions are to apply to a carrier's CDL schooling in exchange for driving commitment however, not being a trusting person, I'd want to make sure what any carrier tells me is valid. I don't care about home time except about every 2 months (just to check on the house) however I want to make sure that indeed there is some terminal / yard within reasonable range of my home.
Also, if my understanding is correct, same for maintenance of the rig. Especially if I'm sitting waiting for routine maintenance.
Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

What I did was search variations of “trucking, transport” etc in Apple Maps to see what’s around. Ended up finding the company I’m currently has a yard for parking the truck at 30 min away rather then the terminal two hours away

There's several truck stops in Binghamton. Truck stop manager might allow you to park there while you're checking on your home.
Some will allow that and some charge a daily fee.

I have Facebook, Indeed and LinkedIn set to alert for driving jobs at a 50 miles radius from the house. It's one way to know who is hiring in your neck of the woods.

If home time isn’t a concern and you own your home, you could rent it out, hand it over to a management company, and you can literally live near better companies if one isn’t available in your area.

    make extra cash this way.

Thanks all, Chinatown, I did attempt to speak with Willow Run, they refused to answer my very basic questions (red flag). Also, they are 100% hands on delivering frozen to fast food chains (NYC +) so you're unloading an entire 53' with a hand truck using a ramp. No thanks! In addition to a 2 year commitment. There is no way in hell I'm unloading or loading any trailers manually. Fix a pallet worth that fell apart, sure. Unload using an electric pallet jack, sure for a fee. Mess with a trailer load manually, hell no. Not even a manual jack, nope. Done that crap already too long. I simply will not drive truck if I have to load or unload a trailer manually. No, hell no, nope! Another reason I don't want local runs, I'm not handling freight. :)
LoneRanger, though I eventually desire to leave the communist state of NY, I need my house available for my college children who grew up here and need a place to call home (me too) until graduation in a few years. So for now, it will be very much needed. Thanks.
