It’s that gas guzzler tax, last I checked a car can’t make at least 20 mpg it gets hit with that fuel penalty.

Somebody recently dropped a “Hellephant” mill into a 1968 Charger!

I can’t see paying over sticker price for a car. Local dealer had one in the spring for $104k. Sticker was $93k and it was sold in three days.

    So?

I bet it’s less than the sales tax and that doesn’t stop anyone from buying the car of their dreams .

Depends on the vehicle and the sales tax rate. Most of the vehicles I’ve seen with the gas guzzler tax average around $2400. Some more, some less.I’ve seen some BMWs,Audis other top end vehicles as high as almost $5000.

Doesn’t stop anyone that wants it .

anyone who can pay for a hellcat can afford the extra $2k for the gas guzzler tax .

what’s really funny to me is everyone worries about the mpg of a vehicle when the depreciation costs far more than the gasoline it consumes .

I buy used gas guzzlers that are near the bottom of their depreciation cycle , so I don’t lose much , if any on that,
That way the 11.5 MPG from a full size V8 4wd vehicle doesn’t hurt so much

And who worries about the MPG of anything you drop a Hellcat engine in anyway?

You're trying to twist the driveshaft and axles off, not doing a swap to drive it miserly??
I wouldn't care if it got 10 MPG, as long as that mile was under 35 seconds.

I saw a guy once do a hole shot from around 7,000 RPM, real impressive - for like 2 feet,
and the driveshaft came apart at the rear, bit in the ground, and threw the back
up in the air like a pole vault, sparks and flames ensued. Fun times.

If you’re worried about depreciation on a vehicle then you bought a vehicle for the wrong reasons. Plus for a few people fuel economy plays a factor into their operating costs. Quite a few times the U.S. has been caught flat footed when fuel prices spiked to a point where fuel efficiency took precedence over performance (Arab oil embargoes,Gulf wars,etc.).
As far as the gas guzzler tax goes-that’s the EPA’s deal the manufacturers have nothing to do with it.
    To each their own.
Nowadays a lot of manufacturers are jumping on the electrification bandwagon to get around CAFE regulations. Dodge just announced that both the Charger and Challenger in their current form (ICE)will be discontinued by 2024-and they’re hinting at electrification for the new Charger.

1 a 65 chevelle ss all original with 40k miles, guy like Gas Monkey pulled up with a bag of cash when he seen it in my yard and I happened to be outside
Gave the cash. Said take it to the bank. If legit bring the car and title, he had no clue who I was or if I was going to skip town
Owns a few companies in town

The other was a 69 with all modern update, Caltrac suspension, LS3 modded vette engine with a guess of 600++HP, could break the tires at 50mph like it would at a light
