While they may appear to be not so upstanding……part of the problem would definitely lie in loading at algoma steel. Those union ##### could care less how long you sit there. I’ve done it, years ago, and never again will I waste 12-18 hours for no pay. You can blame the employer all you want for not covering your wait time……but it’s better to blame the government ‘cause that’s where the real blame lays. How can an industry not be mandated to pay an employee for his time, when EVERY other industry is?? There is no standardized pay in trucking because it’s not a recognized trade. And it should be! Nobody should be paid by the mile anymore. With the advent of elogs, it’s all right there. Pay by the hour for drivers and brokers and pass the cost on to the consumer, just like every other industry does!

Loading steel is for hourly employees. I hauled plenty of steel and never entered a mill,,,pickup pre loaded at yard. Driver retention would have been a issue when i was hauling steel.

Just stop paying dog #### wages for non tandem loads. You're the reason the industry is dying.

Generally companies offering flashy trucks offer mediocre wage and spit for extras but there’s guys out there think having a long nose flashy truck is the big life regardless of how many hours on the job they are not compensated.

Pretty sure Locomote gets guys to work for them because of the corridor they work on. Plus if they live in the right area they're bouncing past their house multiple times a week. That's worth something right there.
