I have a Cat bxs and recently have notice somewhat of a studder or stumble when I just get onto the accelerator and seems to happen more below 1400 rpm.

I'm getting no codes or check engine light, no more smoke than usual.

I thought possibly fuel line letting air in but wouldn't that happen all across the rpm range and not just at low rpm?

I think it’s more common at lower RPMs. My Detroit was doing that, usually after idling for a while. But it would also blow white smoke while sputtering. Once I rev it up, goes away. Hasn’t done it lately. Started after an inframe. Starting to think one or more injector might have needed some carbon to build up to seat them better. I’ve heard of this happening on Cats after changing injectors. Not Detroit’s though. The white smoke is very noticeable. Surprised yours isn’t smoking. These are just my thoughts. Really don’t know what the problem with mine is. I may have had a lot of moisture in the tanks, or slime. I’ve treated them a few times. For now it’s gone.

Mine was inframed in October but just recently started this, no difference in smoke.

I do notice if I shut off the truck then try to start it again in a short time, sometimes it will crank a bit before starting but no issues after sitting over night or a few days.

No telling. I have no idea. All I can think on mine, is what was disturbed during the inframe. The fuel line from filter to fuel pump. The injector harness. To complicate things, my check valve went bad while in the shop. It was losing prime. I’ve also suspected the shutoff/ splitter valve on top of Drivers tank. They’re known for sucking air. Mine stopped doing it, was real bad when filters got plugged up. Changing filters it would go away, but within a day, still do it a little bit. I might have finally gotten the tanks cleaned up. They were black inside. Algae treatment barely cleaned them. I used it a few times more. Really dosed them good, before parking it for 3 weeks. Waiting to do anything till I’m sure it’s still doing it. Having had timing sensors changed, and new head w/ overhead ran, injectors w/ heights set. Don’t know what’s wrong. I can only hope everything’s good and set right. Gonna run an overhead at 70-80k, once my rings get seated, and fuel mileage jumps up. I’m not a mechanic, but I’d suspect fuel lines. Maybe a electrical issue. ECM Power from battery, electronic pedal going bad, loose wire? Or if it’s just a shudder and not a dead miss, maybe the motor mounts/ trans mounts. Even the carrier bearing.

I have a 98 pete 379 with a 12.7 Detroit in it, been having this problem for months now. the problem is intermittent some days its great some days it acts up, right as you start rolling in the the throttle at lower speed and low rpm "1500 to 1600" it will start to pop and stumble and blow whiter grey smoke out the stacks it smells of raw fuel. does not do it at high way speeds. so far i have replaced the suction lines, filter head, new filter, new fuel pump, new map sensor, check check valve on return line and 0.80 restricted 90 on return. currently pulled all injectors out and re oringing them and putting new cups in, injectors have about 50,000 on them along with the entire motor, any help would be appreciated.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I have a 2016 VNL64T670 that is doing the same thing. It’s almost like it’s getting choked and then it just takes off like nothing was the matter. Although I have noticed a substantial loss of power and acceleration the past few months. It has 534,452 miles on it and I heard the Volvo automatic I-shift transmissions start going out around that mileage.
