    "WASHINGTON – Cars of the not-so-distant future could automatically detect whether someone is too drunk to drive under a provision tucked into the $1 trillion law to bolster the nation's infrastructure.
    The new law requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration create a rule mandating that new vehicles be equipped with advanced technology to prevent drunken and impaired driving, beginning no later than 2026."

    This nebulous legislation has been written into almost every infrastructure bill passed in the last 30 years. It will never go anywhere. If they do come up with the rule, manufacturers implement it, and it doesn't work, which is likely, the same will happen to it that happened in 1974 when seat belt interlocks prevented a car from starting unless you were buckled up.
    They didn't work, stranded thousands of people within days, Congress reversed the requirement in less than a month after the switchboard in DC lit up with mad voters....
    The same goes for distracted driving legislation. It would be easy to stop it immediately. Every mobile phone carrier could simply send a signal to every phone telling it to shut off if the GPS detected motion faster than 25 mph. No cell phone use. It will never happen.
