Drivers must use the arrive can app as of dec 1. Very easy to do. Download the app, upload the ID you use to cross( if you have a fast, nexus or enhanced DL, use that before a passport), upload your federal proof of vaccination. Essential travellers only have to submit once, as long as you don’t do a non essential trip. For example, I cross 5 days a week, I use the same code. If I go on vacation or do a day shopping trip, I create a new code for that trip. Then create a new code for essential travel.
Soft enforcement until jan14th. On the 15th, if you do not submit in ArriveCAN, you will be quarantined at the port, regardless of vaccination status, and be subject to an $8500 fine for the first offence.
Don’t shoot the messenger, just passing on the info.
Use of arrive can app mandatory as of yesterday.

How's it work if you don't have a phone that is compatible with apps?

AModelCat Thanks this. -
According to the memo sent out to us this week this does not apply to truck drivers entering Canada until Jan..15. The US will start requiring proof of vaccine on Jan.22. I crossed into Canada today and it wasn't a requirement .

We were supposed to have to start using this app a long time ago. I used it a couple of times never made a difference crossing. Was never ask by the guard for the code, nothing. Just another government idea. Lol
Canadianhauler21, tinytim and upnorthwpg Thank this. -

Exempt essential travellers
Starting November 30, 2021, all exempt essential service providers must provide their vaccination status in ArriveCAN. This must be done even if you’re allowed to enter as unvaccinated.

As for soft enforcement, atleast for non essential travelers, that seems to mean 14 day quarantine but no big fine. Countless news articles like this one
