3026F081-E7E8-46C7-9227-7736D877C754.png The serial # is located on the block under the manifolds according to the previous chart. This explains the date and serial #s. Need to get the #, see if it’s after the date noted, May 1998. It should be if engines original to the Truck. The dates important because all blocks afterwards were pre drilled for oil squirters for wrist pin cooling. So whether you have them or their capped off, they can be added. Prior engines, only the PK was drilled.

Problem was intermittent. Depending on ambient temperature and baro pressure. Problem was 100% resolved with custom tuning.

What did you end up doing as far as custom tunes, and did you have to change anything with ambient temp or baro pressure? or is that all done by tuning? @DetroitDudeBro

Finally sounds like some insight to the problem. The only thing different after my inframe is the Turbo. I put a BG non wastegated on it. I wonder if that could be causing the whole issue. I also had the injector calibrations increased. Starting with the highest one at 75, and the other 5 increased the same amount. That may also be the problem with mine. I doubt it, though the Detroit manual says improper injector settings can cause it.

   . yap

Also check exost, restricted, no (mufler off, on). There is backpressure somewhere.

I was sending my ecm out to be tuned. Truck shows 1.2 million on it. I pulled the valve cover to be sure which injectors I had, in case they had been swapped. While I had the cover off I did the overhead. I felt I understood the procedure in the book well. It started even quicker than before, even with the colder temperatures. My concern is when I turned on the Jake's I got a loud backfire pop after accelerating a bit up from idle.I did minor adjustments as everything was close. I'm worrying I might have screwed up an adjustment. Would you think it's is more Jake adjustment, or injector adjustment. I really don't want to try and blame the tune, when it was probably me.

Anyone had any luck figuring the problem out? I’ve been told the correct tune will solve the problem by a tuner. He also suggested that maybe the pistons in my kit were 15:1 instead of the original 16.5:1. I hope not. It doesn’t smoke white on cold start. The sputtering seems to happen more when raining or afterwards. Barometric pressure?? It has popped and threw flames a few times. Once it’s been ran hard a while it goes away. Fuel economy sucks unless loaded real light, or running empty. More than what’s considered normal.

Mine is still running like a champ. Custom tuning corrected the problem.

If you have a diagnostic laptop with TeamViewer, DiagnosticLink and CalibrationTool. I can check it out for you right quick.

Did an overhead earlier this year, similar issue came up. Simple adjustment to the tune fixed it. (Fraction of more timing). My assumption is that having corrected valve adjustment might bring out some issues with sticky injector plungers and whatnot. Wouldn't hurt to run a gallon of HotShot (green oil additive) through it. That stuff works amazingly good on cleaning up hydraulic systems. Might just help with sticking jake solenoids too. If that is what's going on in your situation.
