yeah, i was at the local wally's world, and a former CDL instructor at a school i worked at, was in the cashier line in front of me.

he asked what i was doing, told him i have been retired.

said he needed a yard instructor, but told him i no longer have my CDL.

he said that for the yard training, i don't need a CDL.

i dunno, winter is here, i hate the cold, but love teaching.

Good morning "teacher":D:D. I was just discussing how teaching is a separate skill, just because I learned a skill doesn't make me a teacher of it. There is definitely a shortage of qualified teachers. All the best in your endeavors. Now bundle up:D:D

ha! Proof that those that can’t teach! Ok you have years of good and if not great driving experience and you will make a great teacher for theses guys. However, you don’t have a current CDL and you can’t drive out on the open roads so in a legalistic way you Can’t really do the ultimate job your teaching them to do outside the yard. So even though you’re only going to be yard training you will do great at it. Lol

well that's the rub to this job offer.

i liked teaching a few years ago, and it was classroom, yard, and road.

but it too was an all season job, and the winters here can be as brutal as the upper mid-west. lots of open space in these trucking yards, and no "lean to" or other coverings in the pouring rain, wind, snow, etc.

    i'll think about it.

as for not having the CDL, the owner (the guy i spoke with) said it ain't no problem.

i think i'd had jump up in his arms today, had he said "classroom" (he's a much bigger guy, like The Rock sized) i'd be like Kevin Hart.......

this will take some serious thought to be at my age and work outside

    i dunno

I think you will do great at it if you choose to- it's funny that the old saying is -those that can't - teach.

I'm sure passing on your years of knowledge would be satisfying. If the ELDT rule is enforced in February, a CDL and state instructor credential would be required.
    49 CFR § 380.301 - General requirements.

    Boondock and Pamela1990 Thank this.

well like i said, i am thinking about it, but i'd rather not get a CDL anymore either.

i have been in touch with my gun club X/O, regarding being an NRA instructor. i already have half the requirements needed.

    Marksmanship Level: Level 4......

i will be actually pursuing that more so than standing out in the cold nasty, weather.

so i got options at this point and time. leaning more towards the NRA Instructor
