Sir, you seem to have misunderstood what the judge said at sentencing.
District Court Judge Bruce Jones told Aguilera-Mederos that he had no choice but to issue the 110 year prison term due to mandatory minimum sentencing standards in Colorado, but also said that “if I had the discretion it would not be my sentence.”

The appeals courts can do nothing more or less than the sentencing judge. It called a MANDATORY minimum.

Look at him crying...it is obvious he is remorseful. I can't speak for the victims families but maybe after 15-20 years they could forgive him as the time cures the wounds. Maybe they won't mind for his earlier release. He needs to sit there and serve the punishments but that should not be a death sentence. It is not like he is a pathological criminal that tries to rob a pregnant women with a gun in his hand.

    Part Deux

To all the would be defenders of this free use convict, here are some FACTS to help you deal with your feelings.

One of the revelations in the preliminary hearing was prosecutors said this was Aguilera-Mederos’ third time traveling the route from Saratoga, Wyoming, to Colorado including where he says he lost his brakes along I-70.

Granted, three trips doesn't make him an experienced mountain driver but it also means he wasn't completely inexperienced either. He should of had some idea there was an emergency truck ramp on the route since he had passed it twice before.

Did this innocent driver assist his victims immediately after intentionally crashing his truck into their cars? Nah, he was busy trying to borrow a cell phone so he could flee the scene:

A witness questioned on Thursday said Aguilera-Mederos asked her for her cell phone because he was going to be arrested and needed to get away.

Murder is a stretch but it darn sure wasn’t 1st degree murder and arguably not even 2nd degree. I believe the actual charges were manslaughter or something to that effect.

A rookie fire fighter is sent into a burning building by himself for the first time. Out of sheer incompetence he huddles in fear just inside the door. House burns down and 4 people die. Does he get 110 years while the Fire Cheif, the fire dept and the training academy go blameless?

But he wasn't charged with 1st degree murder or terrorism. He was charged, among others with vehicular manslaughter.
I would love to see the list of all the guilty charges, but I'm not finding anything listing all of them.

    Yes That’s why I say he’s a manslaughterer and not a murderer

In October 2021, Aguilera-Mederos was found guilty on 27 charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide, six counts of first-degree assault, ten counts of attempt to commit assault in the first degree- extreme indifference, two counts of vehicular assault- reckless, one count of reckless driving, and four counts of careless driving causing death.

They missed speeding and failing to surrender log book lol.

How do you get convicted of 4 counts of manslaughter AND 4 counts of careless driving causing death when only 4 people died? FFS shouldn’t it be one or the other?
