So I’ve read on several threads here that there is no mileage pay in California, only hourly. I assume that linehaul drivers make more per hour, otherwise what would be the benefit of working overnight? I generally run five days a week hourly where I am now, and then do a short linehaul after my reset on Sundays, and the linehaul is mileage pay. My question is: when I get to California, it is all hourly pay, so will they try to keep me right at 50 hours so I do not hit overtime? Or are they so desperate to get the freight moved that they will let drivers work who want to? Thanks for any info.

It’s just all a “move the peanuts game”.
Mileage pay may be illegal in California but what carrier will do is pay “trip pay”, which is the same thing.Copy Cat Thanks this. -

I think there's confusion what mileage pay is not given in california. I think what you're thinking of is mileage pay in terms of on the job. What's not allowed, I believe, is mileage reimbursement for driving "to" work before you're actual shift. I don't see anything related to mileage pay in terms of commercial driving being illegal in California. (I drive for an LTL carrier in California and make mileage pay for anything over a certain amount of miles on a run and hourly below that threshold)

I can say that FedEx Freight pays a higher hourly rate for linehaul, but there is no OT for that.
Regular city work is the regular pay rate with OT after 8/40. You would actually make less than you should by doing linehaul on the weekend, since you would get linehaul pay in the mid to upper $30s/hr instead of OT in the upper $40s/hr.Copy Cat Thanks this. -

At my barn extra linehaul runs aren’t given out by seniority anymore. Those go right to the linehaul dispatcher’s favorites.Pamela1990 and road_runner Thank this.
