The video of him swerving left instead of right and blowing past the runaway ramp was taken because he was already driving very fast and scaring the crap out of four-wheelers. There are numerous warning signs, none of which he could read because he doesn't read or speak English as required by federal regulations.
One thing no one mentions is that he was on the wrong route in the first place. The correct way to take a load of lumber out of Saratoga, Wyoming, to Texas is to take Wyoming 130 north to I-80, then US 287 from Laramie to Fort Collins to I-25, or I-80 to I-25 in Cheyenne. Even a ####### rookie Prime flatbedder like I once was would know better.
Route he took:
Route he should have taken:

So the old-fashioned Colorado legislature in the 90s did what the current politicians would never do. Watch for the introduction of legislation to remove mandatory minimums next session. -
Here's the problem, in my opinion:
His sentence (while being the mandatory minimum) is much stricter than "normal", right? Well in my eyes, his sentence was perfect. He killed several people, and some of them burned to death. The ACTUAL PROBLEM is sentences for everything else are too light. If this guy's sentence seems too harsh in comparison, then we don't need to soften his sentence, we need to get tougher on the rest of them.
It floors me that people are looking at this through the eyes of the trucker, and feeling sorry for him, when they should be looking through the eyes of the family members that had loved ones BURN TO DEATH.
And unless they hold his handlers responsible, it's just going to keep happening.Northern Nomad, 86scotty, TheLoadOut and 11 others Thank this. -
he still lowered the boom...results..???
hanging judge. -
future families were lost.
all the ex-driver lost is his future freedom.TheLoadOut, Last Call, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this. -
Giving the absolute minimum is not the definition of a hanging judge. Now if he had given the maximum on all counts you could call him a hanging judge.Last edited: Dec 20, 2021
