What’s funny is out in my neck of the woods. They run a lot of Wyoming including Casper, Billings, and Salt Lake City with Rocky Mountain doubles. Imagine if all the old hands leave and they get replaced with Swifts trucking model. They might not change the business and everyone stays put. But big companies do what they want to do. Yellow destroyed Reddaway compared to where it was before but atleast yellow was another LTL company.

Take note. They're trying to prove that idiots can do LTL so they can pay people like idiots.

They've been trying that with reefer work for many years now.

 

Isn't UPS hiring with one year experience now? Seems almost all companies have completely lowered hiring standards to basically nothing....

when i started truck driving school they said I’d have a hard time finding a local job that paid well right out of school. Go get a few years experience first. Didn’t even try local, went otr with a mega carrier And found a local LTL job a couple years later. Even at the low pay that company paid (by comparison to most ltl) i was still doubling my otr income. Quickly learned after i started that most drivers there were forklift operators first. Basically forklift drivers training forklift drivers to drive trucks. Seems theyd always rather hire from within before posting public openings. So there’s always a sort rift between driver trained drivers and the guys that didn’t have the best training. Bad driving habits, inconsiderate driving etc etc. But i knew the ltl companies required 2 years at the time i was looking for local. Then as long as you graduated an accredited school. Then one year. Now they’ll send you to a training terminal to get a cdl. Or you could just join as a dock worker, not hard to do even with little or no experience. Pickup and delivery guy will train you to drive around town a few weeks and you’re suddenly qualified to haul triples grossing 105k with a million different kinds of messed up hazmat.
Anyways, yeah. Hiring standards have lowered dramatically in recent years.
