Second search result. Don't be so lazy. The 15 year offer was in another article but I don't have the time to look it up for you right now.

“The facts and consequences of Mr. Aguilera-Mederos’ decisions that day were extraordinary enough to support pursuing first-degree assault charges,” she said. Aguilera-Mederos refused to accept any plea offer “other than a traffic ticket,” King said, and the convictions recognize the harm caused to victims of the crash.

“My administration contemplated a significantly different outcome in this case, but Mr. Aguilera-Mederos wasn’t interested in pursuing those negotiations,” she said.

Aguilera-Mederos’ attorney, James Colgan, would not discuss what sort of plea bargain was considered, except to say that the discussions “were not fruitful.”

So you have no clue where the 15 year figure came from, but your ego won't let you admit it. Gotcha.

I think it's fairly common knowledge he was offered a plea deal. The question is still what was the plea deal. Even your article doesn't say that.

I can't find the 15 year offer, and I freely admit that it may have been in a comment on one of the many articles I've read. My ego is not dependent on the outcome of this case. I'm confident that Gov. Polis has people conducting focus groups to find out exactly how much he should take off the sentence for maximum benefit for his reelection campaign. He just ended the mask mandate, so he's certainly willing to listen to the polling data to improve his odds of winning next year.

The article (and several others) does state quite plainly that the reckless rookie Rogel rejected all plea deals that involved more than a traffic ticket. Are you saying that he was right in his assessment that the proper consequences for his actions that lead to the deaths of four people, a dozen injured, and the destruction of 20-some vehicles was a traffic ticket?

That's rhetorical, by the way. Arguing with people who think this guy should get off lightly "because feelings" is more than tiresome. Frankly I regret coming here to see the responses.

@ZVar is not one of those guys who feels he should have been given a lighter sentence.

Actually I want the law to be followed. If the general public wants a lighter sentence, then change the law. Otherwise, well, the sentencing wasn't made up for him.

My bad. I get hot about this case because I'm familiar with the roads and because despite the fact that he so obviously screwed up, he has never taken responsibility. He said publicly that he was innocent. Literally millions of people have been and are making excuses for him. Someone commented that he couldn't afford a decent lawyer, but his GoFundMe raised $120,000 for his bond. He refused any plea deal that involved more than a traffic ticket, then boohoos when the consequences hit -- and even here there are drivers making excuses for him.

Was I wrong to say he was offered 15 years? Quite possibly. Was I wrong when I said he refused any deal that involved more than a traffic ticket? No. Is anyone "fact-checking" any of the actual nonsense being said here about this case?

And this is part of why I'm in the same position as you, I've been over these mountains too darn many times, every day I see drivers speeding down Genesse, it was simply a matter of time, it's happened before, and sadly, no one has learned a darn thing, it will happen again.

BTW, this is what led to the large signs on I 70 eastbound, I do remember this crash

    Now I’ve seen it all.

This is precisely why the general public has no place weighing in on things they know nothing about.

This clown is suggesting Rogel had “no training on how to use a runaway truck ramp”….

I’m done, I’m just done. The general public is STUPID.
