I posted this in another forum and have yet no one has explained to me how a driver can do this without going into violation, every day. Maybe an explanation can come up in this forum.

I am not sure where I should post this but I will start here. 10Roads a nationwide U.S. Mail hauler has this ad on Craigslist and read it very carefully:
Schedule: Harrisonburg, VA to Richmond, VA-FT | Weekend Differential
    • Runs on a rotating schedule
    • Days on/off will vary with rotation
    • Start Time: 3:30 PM
    • End Time: 7:30 AM (the next day)
    • Hours Per Trip: 11
    • Hours Per Week: Avg. 38.5
First thing that struck me, you will be working for 16 hours and getting paid for 11. This would turn me off in a New York second. 2nd thing that struck me, you will be getting off @ 7:30am and right back on @ 3:30pm, where is the 10 hours ????? 3rd thing that struck me, how can a driver stretch his HOS each day to 16??

I am somewhat "shocked" that a carrier would even publish a schedule such as this. Someone who might know how to work his HOS better than me, please jump in and explain this.

0730 to 1530 is eight hours. Maybe by doing split breaks? Sitting for at least two hours stops your clock during the 1530 to 0730 shift, and keeps your work day at 14 hours, then sets you up for the eight hour sleeper berth.

I thought about this arrangement , but the 8 hrs are required in the sleeper, not going home and sleeping a few hrs at home. No driver living in or around Harrisonburg, Va is going to stay in the sleeper for 8 hrs when he is at his home domicile.

Could be those are just the hours they want you to be available... ? Still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I don’t think I’ve heard one good thing about 10 Roads, so who knows.

So Richmond-Harrisonburg is 130 mi. Obviously a 2 hr drive each way, however, does the day consist of various stops at small towns to drop and pick up ? Or, are you working the dock before/after the shift starts/ends ? Or, depending on what day of the week you work, THAT shift starts/ends at 330pm or 530pm or whatever. Probably slip seating the truck also, you show up at 330pm but your truck is late getting back, so you work the dock. Hey, I have an idea, call the co and ask them ! :hello2:

Friend of dad had small trucks feeeding a central post office from a half dozen podunk postoffices TWICE a day. This could be the same kinda thing.

I saw that and thought “maybe that’s why mail trucks always look they’ve been driven through Dresden, Germany during a bombing raid.”

Well, perhaps you may show up at 3:30PM, but don't necessarily start driving then. Perhaps it ends up being a kinda of split thing, Some actually start the trip when they check in at 3:30PM and finish earlier and some don't start until later and finish at 7:30AM. And, perhaps their scheduling is too disorganized to know which drivers will start driving earlier and which will start later, so they just want everyone to show up at 3:30PM.
It's also possible that they won't schedule you 2 days in a row. It says days off vary with rotation. So perhaps that's how they manage having only 8 hours between consecutive days.
    Perhaps?!?!?!
