Well, a driver decided to throw the inner axel / power divider when the rear wheels were spinning.

    Big oaf…. *sigh*

What exactly is broken now because the diff lock is intermittent now. Sometimes it works and other times not.

What exactly am I looking at getting replaced?

Sounds like the power divider is damaged

I’m not familiar with rear ends - it’s something that can be pulled out of the rear end and replaced?

Front diff most likely broke the ring holding the spider gears of the power divider section. can be replaced without pulling the whole diff out if not to damaged.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

The power divider is attached to the front rear. The do sell a power divider kit, however the carrier (the gears inside of the rear) may be damaged as well. The extent of the damage can only be fully determined when the rear is taken apart.

Personally I would just have the P/D section pulled off first and check that out.

Could also pull an oil sample before complete disassembly. But what everyone else has said is spot on.
