Lumpers in my biz all take cash. How do I document lumper expenses for tax write-off purposes?

No cash without a receipt.

That is what an experienced driver at work told me, strangely he didn't ask me to sign any receipts the day I worked for him.
Is a handwritten receipt really sufficient for IRS purposes? -

I hate this topic, glad I pulled a flat. legit expense that's hard to legitimately document. Document it the best you can, worst case in an audit you have to explain yourself and go from there. 35 years as an OO I was never audited. But I was always prepared the best I could be.

You are ok to pay with cash just keep the receipt...

Not sure you’ll have luck. Or shouldn’t anyway getting a SS number but just get a receipt book
Have them sign and print their name
If audited by the IRS I’m sure they have seen and know about this already plus if audited the few bucks on lumpers most likely isn’t why they are there in the first placeTouch Freight Freddy Thanks this. -
