Do the heavy-duty diesel engine emissions have a 8-year/80,000 mile warranty period like the "cars" do? Per the federal requirement - or does that only apply to cars?

Most motorcoaches (Monaco, Newmar, Tiffin Thor/Rev, etc.) which usually cost upwards of $400K (some are in the millions) only have a one or two year warranty. It's crazy someone would spend that much money and not get a longer warranty from the manufacturer. On RVs, the mileage is typically low so its not uncommon for a 7 or 8 year coach to have under 80,000 miles.

Is the DEF, DPF, etc. covered for 8 years/80K ? This stuff is expensive to fix, and many Coach owners are complaining of failures in coaches that are under 3 years old (or less).

The basic engine warranty (from Cummins) is only 2 years.

I think due to the yet perfected technology on diesel emissions systems and the money that it brings in to dealers on parts & service it's never going to be a long range warranty item on a commercial vehicle. While they are better now than the earlier emission years they still require routine maintenance, which I'm betting the manufacturers don't expect many to do.

I am not sure about other OEMs. I can tell you that every KW and Pete truck comes with 5yr 100k federal emissions warranty. This covers most of the components directly related to emissions reduction.

This is not a purchased warranty, but standard warranty that is included with standard truck purchase.

Bad thing is 100k goes by pretty quick.

    To revisit an old thread-

The DEF system on my 2020 Freightliner 108 needs major repairs. Truck has 57,000 miles.

The service advisor says that I'm out of warranty, but according to the warranty card in the truck, the truck has a federally-mandated 5 year or 100,000 mile emissions warranty.

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this or gotten pushback from a dealer on these warranties.

Did you show the service advisor that warranty card? Have you tried calling warranty services yourself? Sure sounds like you're covered to me.

I would ask on what basis/reason is your vehicle out of warranty. Then show the warranty card. Light duty vehicles are 2yr/24k for most parts (performance warranty) and 8yr/80k on a few specific parts such as ECM and catalytic converters (Design and defect). Heavy diesel may be similar but could not find anything specific on EPA website. So it likely depends on what is wrong if it is covered or not. Unlikely that all is covered for 5yr 100k just as all is not covered on a light duty vehicle for 8yr 80k. On the EPA website you can ask a question.
    This from the EPA.
What Should I Do If My First Attempt to Obtain Warranty Coverage Is Denied? If your first attempt to receive emissions warranty coverage is denied, you should do the following: 1. Ask for a detailed explanation, in writing as to why emissions warranty coverage was denied; and 2. Ask for the name(s) of the person(s) involved in the decision to deny coverage, including anyone from the manufacturer’s regional or zone office; and 3. Ask for the name(s) of the person(s) with the manufacturer you should contact to appeal the denial of coverage under the emissions warranty. 4. Contact and, if necessary, write to the person mentioned above requesting coverage and giving the basis for your request. Repeat and continue the appeal process until you are satisfied or have exhausted all means of appeal.

Didn't the feds pass regulations starting in 2025 or 2027 manufacturers have to warranty emissions components on heavy duty trucks? I could be wrong.
