MILLARD COUNTY — A man is dead after being struck by the SUV he had been driving before stopping to get out on Interstate 15 in Millard County on Wednesday afternoon.

Utah Highway Patrol responded to a report of a vehicle crash near Scipio on northbound I-15 around 2:30 p.m.

According to UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden, the driver of a Cadillac Escalade that has been reported as stolen stopped in the right northbound lane "for no apparent reason," and got out of the car. A short time after, a semi-truck struck the rear of the Escalade, sending it "spinning off the roadway," where it collided with the driver standing outside, killing him, police said.

The driver of the Escalade is believed to have been the only occupant of the SUV, police said. The driver of the semi-truck wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor, according to the UHP.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

What an awfully-written article. Passive sentences, awkward structure... I'd rip this article apart in editing. Jesus.

    Here's how I'd do it.

A man walking on foot was struck and killed by the vehicle he had just parked in the right lane of northbound Interstate 15.

The crash occured around 2:30 p.m. near Scipio.

According to UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden, the driver of a Cadillac Escalade that had been reported stolen stopped in the lane "for no apparent reason," and got out of the car. A short time later, a semi-truck struck the rear of the Escalade, sending it "spinning off the roadway," where it struck and killed the driver.

The driver of the Escalade is believed to have been the lone occupant of the SUV, police said. The driver of the semi-truck was wearing a seatbelt and not injured.

The UHP said they are investigating whether the SUV driver, whose name has not been released, was impaired at the time of the incident.

You actually brought up a good point, and that led to a better edit for the end of the snippet.
