Hey guys and gals! I live in Utah, I'm a company driver for a 10 truck company. I drive a T-800 with a side dump. I've ran both side dumps and Class B dumps. End dump trailers are not at all common here unless you're hauling trash or demolition. Most of the articulated work goes to side dumps or belly dumps. Our company rate for the side dumps is $140/hr right now (almost always busy year round). Class B trucks are somewhere around $85-100/hr.

We're looking at moving somewhere in Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina, or the western part of Virginia. I'm also considering buying my own truck. What type of equipment is common? I love running a side dump, but if it's too large/not commonly used, it probably doesn't make sense to buy. Would really prefer not to run a regular dump truck, just because I always feel beat up after the end of the day.

What areas are hot for work, what type of dumps, and what are y'all charging?

I'm familiar with the concept, but is it commonly used in that region? Whatever I wind up doing, I need to be home every night and have consistent work.

WNC is mountainous. Almost everything I saw there was a dump truck.

Anyone have any idea what the market is like out there? Utah is literally it's own little world of building and development.

Haha, when you say it will seem like the UN, do you mean that because of how busy it is, or how much we're all dodging the DOT truck?

I’d move and get a job for a year or so to learn the local business practices and then purchase a rig .

I’m a hillbilly , err , I mean an Appalachian American . And most folks use dump trucks . Not trailers .

i know one guy that even has some smaller 6 wheel dumps , to do driveways and cabin sites that a 10 wheel dump truck can’t fit.
