As a current fuel hauler, may I offer to you my personal congratulations on your new gig in fuel.

It's just one person's opinion, but based on my experience thus far--I think your above expressed fears are pretty much overblown.

Most fuel haulers don't die in the line of duty.

Most fuel haulers aren't eat up with cancer in 10 years or less from dealing with fuel.

If you are a good enough driver to get a fuel hauling gig, then I wouldn't worry about accidents.

However, you WILL still be picking up stuff--those fuel hoses won't move themselves.

But....compared to food service work....you should find delivering fuel to be a walk in the park.

Sounds like your current employer didn't want to lose you. You are probably contemplating a move 99% of the drivers here would want. Today, everything is closed to vapor and actual touching the fuel, so I'd think risk is low. Anhydrous Ammonia,, THAT'S a nasty one. Heck, the truck probably leaks more exhaust in the cab, a known carcinogen. It's a great job, few ever quit once they get one. A word of caution, it's repetitive. Another poster claims they are 5 years in fuel hauling and want a different job because it's boring. You don't go into a repetitive job like fuel hauling for the adventure. You do it because at 3:30( or whatever) you go home and have a life. It's why I did dump truck work. The job itself sucked( you want adventure, baby, that's the one) but at 3:30, the pit closed and see you in the morning. Take the fuel job, I guarantee you'll forget all about an O/O deal.

 

i would be more concerned with over filling at the rack and cause the foam to get 15' feet high
