Under the following conditions, and assuming you can only drive 11 hours per work shift because you have elogs, how do you maximize your total miles over the course of 8 weeks?

    (1) every day you drive, you always get 11 hours logged on line 3 (driving) and your average mph is always the same

    (2) you begin your 10-hour break at the same time every night (or day)

    neither.
    a. Don't burn your 70.
    b. Take a 34 hour restart.

    I prefer option "a"

Correct. Specifically, you drive 11 hours every day for six consecutive days then do a reset. Do this every week for 8 weeks and you end up with 8 times 66 = 528 total hours of driving. Since burning your 70 and then doing a reset takes 8 days instead of 7 (assuming you sleep nights), you only get 7 times 70 = 490 total hours when you do it that way instead. That difference is huge, and it only gets huger the longer the time period.

I prefer recaps over 34's. Same amount of available hours....just crammed in... or spread out. Personal preference and appointment times will determine how one chooses to run.

Loggers probably aren’t worried about miles, between loading and unloading the 70 is their main problem. Then take Saturday afternoon till early am Monday off as a 34 and start over……

But it's not the same number of hours. If your running 11 hours/day to maximize miles, you can easily use your 70 in 6 days, then reset, and then drive 11 hours on the 8th day. You are literally a day ahead of someone running recap.

Bingo! I love the coworkers who think driving 8 hours a day so they don’t have to do a reset is the most productive. I’ll be unloaded/reloaded and heading back the other way before they even deliver. I took 4 or 5 resets in November and still ran over 15k miles in a 65 mph truck. No way you could do that by running so you never have to take a reset. DE8AB3B6-D263-48AC-9464-1C3B112949E6.png

Then there are those of us that run recaps because we like the relaxed lifestyle it allows.
It isn't all about miles for some of us.

I might make a few more bucks running hard, but the added stress just isn't worth it to me.

You work about 50 hours, then go home for 48 hours, then work about 50 hours, then go home for 48 hours. Do that about 48 times.
