Thanks, 'Ol hand. I like your posts. You are very knowledgeable and I was hoping we'd get to chat one of these days. My uncle was a truck driver for CF for many years and my dad was a feeder driver for UPS until he retired in 2011. From them, I got my love of truck stops.

Sure do! Where else could you fuel, eat, park, shower and sleep all in the same location. Those "roomettes" on the second floor after you climbed the circular staircase were all you needed and very reasonable. Most all of them today are just closets for storage or empty.

I remember the Blue and White Truckstops. Some were located in Ohio. The waitresses would wear a very short blue mini skirt with a white blouse and 5 " pumps. Not sure how there backs took it looking back.
The coffee was just horrible but the scenery was something else. Some older Drivers on here would know more about these locations than I do.
I was only in my early 20's in those days. I would listen to the Driver's chatting with the Waitresses. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah they was good, both the Waitresses and the Driver's.
Experience pays dividend's was my take on it.

There was a Blue and White TS at exit 59, I 70 in Clayton, In, across the street from the TA. I used to stop there often and the food was pretty good. Don't remember the coffee being bad though.

I had just purchased my first tractor, January 1976. Been in business for 3 weeks running a 1974 White Road Commander bought from northAmerican Van Lines. 32" flat top sleeper was a little well, snug.
Took a trip hauling filing cabinets from Aurora IL to Pico Rivera California. First time I had ever been west of Mississippi. First trip (of many) with my wife.
Splurged on a room at the Union 76 In Gallup NM. Half the price of a real motel, something like $12. Clean and comfortable, just 2 beds and a table. No TV.
Showers down the hall, they had one room where she could take a shower with no interruptions, women on the road were a rarity then.

That’s funny my first tractor was also a 1974 white road commander.
    I pulled cattle with it.
It had a 335 Cummins and a 13 speed UNDER DRIVE transmission with no Jake and manual steering.
I remember standing up for leverage when turning the steering wheel to get in to tight docs lol.
