I've been in my old truck for over 2 years. It's a 2019 Volvo VNL760. Had 166,000 when I got into it and has 354,000 on it now. My Niece named her Petunia and I was quite attached to her! I think it's common a driver gets attached to their truck, but I tend to do stuff like that like I'm on steroids with it.
Well, she keeps breaking down on me these last 3 or 4 months. It's been a pain and I lost alot of driving time waiting on her to get fixed. A week later, something else is breaking.
So, with more humor than seriousness, I sent our terminal manager an email basically stating why I need a brand new truck!! I know my terminal manager fairly well. He's a great guy and enjoy driving for him. I didn't put alot of expectations on the brand new part, but figured they would try to get me into a newer truck at least. About 2 hours after I sent the email, I got a message from my driver leader that there was a brand new truck reserved for me at our Utah terminal and we just have to get me there.
Everything since then has gone sideways and then sideways again. Been like an episode of Twilight Zone I swear. But, finally get here, get the keys to a brand new truck and even that goes sideways. A whole bunch of problems with it, take it to the shop and they have to send it to the Volvo dealer for repair. So, they gave me a different brand new one. This one appears to be working out. No problems with it and I've got about half my stuff moved into it.
So, I have a BRAND new, 2022 Volvo VNL760 with only 13 miles on it!!! That's pretty new!!! I'm sad to be leaving my old truck, but excited and happy to be in a brand new truck. No other drivers have abused, broken or messed up anything with it. As for the name, I've already been told I have post a few pics of it and my Niece will name it for me. I guess I don't get say. But, my Niece is awesome and very special to me, so I'll deal with it!!!
Wish me luck in my brand new truck!!!!! I'm supposed to pick up my next load tomorrow afternoon. But, already warned my driver leader I may not be finished moving in by then. After 2 years of being in a truck you, well at least I, accumulate alot of stuff to move. But, I live in my truck for all intents and purposes, so I have alot of stuff with me!!!

Like you stated there’s no better feeling than being issued a new truck and not having to wonder what kind of #### squisher was in there before you. The moving in part always stinks tho. But it’s always darkest before the dawn. Enjoy!

Six, I hope that new truck works out for you. I haven't had any new truck be a lemon for me, so hopefully that first one was the exception for you.

I'm waiting on getting my million mile truck.
That will be brand new as well, but who knows how long it will take to get it in these days of Covid delayed everything.

    The_vett, D.Tibbitt and Six9GS Thank this.

I really wasn't too upset or concerned about the problems the new truck had. Figure a brand new vehicle will have a few glitches that'll need to be worked out. I figured I'd just run a bit more in my old truck, to include going home for some hometime scheduled for next week and by the time my hometime was up, get up back here and move into it. But, they had a different solution.
The thing that touched me is that our terminal tends to avoid getting brand new trucks. It costs a terminal more for brand new trucks. I'd already been warned and told best way to get into a brand new truck was wait until they are taking the one you're in out of inventory. Then they'll usually let you get a brand new truck. If it wasn't for the repeated mechanical issues with my old truck, I would have preferred to wait anyway. I had a 2017 Freightliner for my 1st month solo, but then had a chance to get the Volvo. I had wanted a Volvo from day 1 and they knew that. So, almost all my adventures in trucking have been in my old truck. To say I was fond of it would be like saying Michael Jordan was just a basketball player.
Anyway, the moving stuff continues! It's dark now, Temps are going down and I'm getting tired. Unsure how much more I'll get done today.
Stay safe out there Moosetek13!!! It's just another day in paradise!!!

Oh yeah! As a small bonus, my new truck is governed at 67 instead of 65. I've also heard rumors that Swift is changing the governed speed to 70. It'd be nice, but poking along at 65 is usually OK with me. But, there are times I wished I could go faster and cover a few more miles in a day. We'll see what happens. My luck, first time it goes to the shop for something, they'll back it down to 63 instead!
