If you are tired, and need a nap daily, please find another line of work, you will end up in an accident.

Those long delays at shippers and receivers.......those are the best times to take a nap.

If you are tired. The worst thing you can do is keep driving. You might kill someone.

Two things. Figure out if you're still going to be on time for your load. If not. Call your safety and dispatch departments. Have them both on the phone. Explain what you are doing. Why? Cuz safety will keep dispatch in check.

I've never had to do a nap in the day. But when I had to run a load at night. To run off recaps. I did have to take a 30 minute power nap. A few hours into the first night. But I had 3 hours of wiggle room on the delivery.

All that considered. If you are having to do it constantly. You might have sleep apnea. If you don't. Then you're not cut out for this line of work and should find something else.

i used to take short, 15-20 minute "power naps", and nothing ever came of it. you can take a nap anytime you wish, just make sure you are in a safe place first and foremost. at the shipper or receiver is an ideal time, if you are not allowed on the docks.

just try not to nap for too long, you'll wake up grouchy and groggy..

set a timer for no more than 20 minutes.

I hope this question is being asked for information only and has no underlying motive behind it. One thing about this job is based on pickup and delivery appointments you may be on duty at any time of the day or night over a period of several days. Then there are medical reasons for not getting rest like OSA. These things go well beyond simple trip planning. In general, if you are having trouble with staying alert during your on-duty periods I suggest you see a Physician and get some help. In my last few years active, I sometimes would get in the sleeper for an hour, but this was always based on my schedule. ALSO, laying in your sleeper saving the world while playing that hot new video game for half of your 10 is NOT getting rest.
