LOL..."Churn" probably isn't the word I was looking for but it's what my stock broker lady calls it. Instead of just letting the account lay there and take whatever the market dishes out she's constantly moving things around, buying, selling, doing whatever it is that she does. The only way I have of judging her ability is by the amount of money she's made for me. I have no complaints.
I don't know much about the stock market or investing in general. I do know that I'd reached a point where I had to do something with the money I'd accumulated. I went to Schwab on the advice of a friend and I liked their approach to what I wanted to do. I wanted solid growth, low risk, dependable issues and that's the way we've kept it. That doesn't mean that every once in awhile you can't jump into something, ride it awhile, and get out before it crashes. Often a little well advised risk taking will pay off and that's where having a good broker is important. When my broker retired his daughter took over most of his accounts and she's done better for me than her Dad. I lucked out and I know it. Is she making money off me? Absolutely. And, with the results we've had, I don't begrudge her a penny of it.
She likes to make things happen and when she gets a good lead on something we stay in touch. I have had very few losses and I credit her continuing interest in the market for that. A lot of brokers don't seem to care much about the little guy...and that's what I am compared to a lot of investors.SL3406, Dino soar and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -

You have to figure out what works best for you but one thing I found out for sure was that there's a whole lot more to investing than meets the eye.SL3406, Midwest Trucker, Speedy356 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I use fidelity and have some money invested in VTI (vanguard total market index). I also use an advisor and go through Franklin templeton that is mostly large cap funds. I have an old vanguard target date fund from an old 401k also. I just buy. I’ve never sold any shares.
