Have had a fiasco switching my truck over from a 10 speed to 13. Salvage yard sent an 8LL instead of a 13. Been working with them close to 2 months to find another. They have an RTLOC16909A which should be a convertible 9 to 13. I see that there is a kit available for the swap. Anything else that I need to verify? What is actually in the kit? Already have the new shift knob. Don't want to go through these problems again. Just trying to find out everything I need to, and make sure it's what I need before they ship it.

Air line and a shifter knob is all you need. How in the world did they confuse a 8LL for a 13 speed?

    Perfect.

8LL didn't have a tag on it. I took their word for it, and didn't think to check anything else out. Hooked up air lines and H/L had air when in low range.

Someone else can verify. I didn't do transmission work at our shop (just everything else). My brother did all that but I know it was just lines and knob.

You have to modify your driveshaft length as well. 13 speed is somewhere around 3 inches longer transmission if I remember correctly. FRO 10 speed is 29.93 inches RTLOC is 33.1

I had the driveshaft shortened to fit the 8LL before I knew it was wrong. Hopefully it's the correct length now.

I don't know what the conversion kit cost but it would be simpler to just buy a whole transmission and put it in I would think.

If it was their mistake they really should return it and make you whole.

They're supposed to exchange the 8LL they shipped for a 13. I had already installed the 8 before I figured out the mistake. Needed the truck, so have been running it while they found another 13. I looked up the kit and it includes the shift knob, which I already have, along with some o rings, valve cover, etc. About $150. Don't need all the parts though. From what I've found, the RTOC is a 13 without the splitter knob installed.
The 8LL can't be converted, so it has to come out.

You are correct, the RTOC is built the same as a 13speed but the air for the shifter is plumbed as a 9, add a 13speed shift knob and re-plumb it to a 13 and you are good to go. The one's that I have converted to 13's I had to do some work with the splitter to get it working after not being used for years.
