Which OC? I was in Charlotte, that's a little different than what I went through. Only paper logs we had to do was learning them. Even with TE I was on ELD.

It was at Wilmer for the 3-week inexperienced orientation. Every day during the first two weeks we logged our daily activities on paper as we went. On duty during classroom or backing training, off-duty for breaks/lunch, and Driving when we went out on the road. They were checked daily by the instructors to make sure we were doing them correctly. I definitely felt capable of paper logging if needed after those two weeks. At the end of the 2nd week we received our tablets. We logged electronically during the 3rd week OTR with the TE, but on the TE's tablet, not ours.

Schneider was one of the first company coming back to trucking I contacted for the simple reason they had a tanker job. Called the recruiter line was told to fill out an application online and give a call back. Did as they asked just to get told they can't consider me for the job because I don't live in the correct zip code. The zip code the are referring to is another county and that county line is 1/2 mile from my house. Asked if they could make an acceptation and the recruiter said "that's to much work". II just shuck my head and hung the phone up.

Too many incompetent "recruiters" at that place. One of the lowest paying in the industry as well. Way better out there!

Since they’re paying for the rental car, technically you’re on duty, for travel, same as if they bought an airplane ticket.
You’re traveling for business purpose, mechanics going to and from home are not, just as if you’re driving your vehicle to work

If you’re speaking technically I don’t know where you find your on duty at for driving a car or flying. The dot rules only apply to commercial vehicles that your responsible for, when you’re considering on duty time or paid time at another job.

On-duty time means all time from the time a driver begins work or is required to be in readiness for work until the time the driver is relieved from work and all responsibilities for performing work.

    They consider that work.
It’s actually for your safety, say you drove rental 10 hours, they won’t make you jump in a truck and drive another 11.
    Good rule, in my opinion.

Sorry, but there is not a single provision that states it has to be in a commercial motor vehicle. On the contrary part of the written regulation specifically state if you perform compensated work for a non motor carrier you have to log on duty.
