Yesterday I posted about my breaks smoking on I-5 north at grapevine.
Well today I was returning from trip, going south on 99frwy about 10 miles from grapevine. I was in middle lane (there were 3 lanes). A guy driving a Honda pickup truck was in the far left lane. He was driving 35-40mph and cars were passing him. As I was passing him he turned directly into my trailer. His passenger side hit my rear driver side wheels and chasis guard. Major damage to his vehicle. We both pull over to the shoulder, he gets out of the car stumbling and smiling highly intoxicated. Barely could walk. He comes up to my truck and tries to open the door. Then he starts walking around my truck and just looking confused. I stayed inside and called 911. I opened the window and told him to just wait the cops are coming. He said ok. He then stumbled back to his pickup truck, got inside and took off. I waited for the officer. Gave the report to the officer. Also have pictures and video. Alerted my company, and reported it to my driver leader and accident department. After taking my report, the CHP officer informed me that they had found the vehicle. I'm not sure if the guy was inside and I didn't ask.
So I'm just wondering what to expect tomorrow or the next few days regarding the incident.
I have video of him stumbling and smiling but the file is too large to upload.
Had an accident, wasn't at fault.

Sorry to hear that. Have no idea what the answer is as I haven't been through that yet, but I'm interested to hear what happens since we're at the same company.

First, they are not breaks, they are brakes.
Second, he hit your trailer. It was not preventable by you.
Nothing to worry about. -
I had a similar thing happen to me when I was at your company ten years ago. They found me not at fault and I didn't get in trouble, but I still had to go to an oc to do additional training.

Get used to it. As society deteriorates, people are less and less concerned about doing the right thing, and just splitting, with little action against them. LEO's are so overwhelmed with stops like this, there is simply nothing they can do, even though, it's OUR only recourse,,,call a cop. I'm not sure what to do these days, short of shooting out the tires so they CAN'T leave. I think, if you called the cops, there's a record of it, and down the line, someone may not know all the details, and this could hold YOU back, as crazy as it sounds.

In future - avoid this situation. A vehicle doing 40 mph in the hammer lane is a situation waiting to happen.
Back out, move to the third lane, take an exit, move to the shoulder, there were options.
I’m not saying it’s your fault - the guy hit you. Just be aware next time you see the potential for an accident, and assess your options.Accidental Trucker, Woodys, Siinman and 3 others Thank this. -

The police report will tell them everything they need to know...
He hit you
He was drunk
He fled the scene of a accident...
You have a dashcam
Shows you didn't leave your lane and hit him
Shows you pulled over
Shows him stumbling around
Shows him leaving before the cops show up
I wouldn't worry about it
