If your dispatcher is constantly giving you loads of 1000 to 2000 miles and the delivery time is so tight that if you drive all the legal time you have at the speed limit and you have about one hour extra for unforseen delays then you better believe your going to be late a lot of times. I tell them when I accept the load that it's probably going to be late because it's just too many miles in too short a time. If they then give me that load and I'm late it's their fault and they know it. If it's critical they will repower it with a team some where along the way.

It's even better when they give you a load at 10:15AM with a strict 11AM load time and you're 70 miles away on two lane highways. Still sittin here at 5:30pm waiting to be loaded. It delivers 5 hours away starting at 9am. Fun, fun.

I don't believe in the term 'late'...
Infact I resent it...
I'll only admit i'm late if I had plenty of time to get there but misread the delivery time or over slept...
But If I miss the appointment time due to the dispatcher assigning me the load late...than I refuse to say I'm late... -
My carrier charged me 100 buck per late delivery instances in 2009. Needless to say I'm not hauling for them in 2010.
-
And, I should add, the only reason I was late on these deliveries was poor and unrealistic pre-planning on these loads.

Bosnians by the name of Adi and Sado Jelovac. A&S Lines & A&S Logistics of Grand Rapids, MI; Halo Transportation of Kentwood, MI. Every time you turn around they have a new MC #. They are scammers and thieves and heinous abusers of drivers. And they're border-jumping illegal aliens too for all I know. They have loans w/ the Small Biz Admin (fed govt)--you're tax $$ at work.
http://a-slines.com/
Their mc #'s are: 538397, 499962, & 558861
These guys are massive scammers!!!
On 44th Street where Jelovac's store their trucks and trailers in GR there is a whole yard full of the so-called independent carriers like these guys that run junk trucks and do so illegally. Another outfit I've heard of and have seen in operation is Marko Express mc# 545000. They're just down the road from A&S Line (Jelovac bros.) on Lake Eastbrook Blvd. in GR, MI. This area is apparently a nest of thieves. Another co. is Sweet Express. Same ilk. Sweet has a hq down by the tracks in GR on Burton Street in the hood. Illegal aliens abound in there and the area is rife w/ crime. These bottom feeders need to be cleaned out and apparently our great federal bureaucracy can't seem to do it (natch.) They shouldn't even be allowed in the country. Yugoslavians in general are the scum of the earth in my experience. Maybe some are ok, I hate to generalize, but my experience of these predatory refugees from commie-land is horrible and I've met many good American truck drivers that have been victimized by these scumhogs. They will put your life in jeapardy w/ faulty equipment and forced dispatch way beyond the HOS rules!! They don't respect our laws one bit. They think Americans are trash, fools and worse. We are fools surely to let these gypsies in our great land to ruin our standards and potentially kill members of the travelling public. -
BTW, I have posted all this in report bad carriers section of truckers report forum

It's a good idea to have a back up alarm for just this type of situation. On days when I needed to be up real early, I would set two screaming meanies about 15 minutees apart.
Believe it or not though,I have even slept through that a couple of times. It woke up the driver next to me who came beating on the side of my sleeper berth. That got me going.I don't know what it is, I can sleep through all kinds of noise, reefers, idling truck, radio etc,but just tap on the sleeper and I'm up..
But don't beat yourself up.It happens to everybody at one time or another.Obviously,it's not a pattern. But look into getting another screaming manies as a backup. The cost of an extra battery is peanuts compared to getting fired if it happens too often..
Good luck Driver. -
While with USA Truck I was late on delivery 2 times I remember. First it did not really matter, it was a drop and hook. I over slept then.
Second time, I loaded in Clearwater Mn. I misread my qualcomm and thought I had a Monday delivery. I was going to do a restart then take off with the load. My dispatcher called and as if thee was a problem, and pointed out I was to deliver the next day 1000 miles away. Oooops I took off and made it to Bufflo TX and had to take a nap, getting toooo tired. I informed Dispatch I was going to be late, and they called the receiver. When I arrived 2 hours late, I was taken right in and was told Thanks, by me being late was good for them.. They were backed up big time, so it was for the best.
I use my Cell Phone alarm. I set all 3 alarms 5 minutes apart. It worked good for me. The one time I over slept, I did not set the alarm.. My goof, but it only delayed me in reloading that day.
