It’s not so bad, you can still get to gourmet dogs at loves for $3.33.

OK don’t turn this thread political, but I’ve noticed while every single food item at truckstops has skyrocketed in price, for some reason the gourmet hotdogs that they’ve always sold two for $3.33 remains. I’m not promoting hotdogs here but of all the truckstop food, this is always been one of the better bargains is the quality of the dogs they use are pretty good actually. So I picked up two dogs the other day and I asked the lady at checkout and she said they had just discussed those during a meeting the other day and we’re talking about raising them to $5.99 for two, but the manager said no. Or corporate or whoever. Everything else is being marked up.
We are gonna need the Per diem cap of $.12 a mile raised here pretty soon. It’s probably already overdue. Should be about 20 cents a mile in my opinion.

I used to pretty much eat fairly well on about $100 a week out here. Now I go in and buy a couple snack foods and a soda and it’s $16. The $8-$9 pilot meals are now running all over $15.

Trucker salaries need to go up to pay for this. If a guy has 2+ years clean should be $100k/yr if working 70 hours.

70 hours is like 2 full time jobs anyway. $2/k a week. Anything else won't work and it's better to sit at home and look.

I've been out of the truck since Dec. 2020, have driver wages gone up to counter this inflation problem? At some point, a new driver is working for free.

Those strict, vegetable salads at Love's are quite awesome as well. Eat it as it is, or do like a typical person and dump a ton of ingredients on it. Seems like the prices for everything are going up due to non-pin-pointable reasons. That said, can't wait to get my regular truck back or the fridge finally working on the loaner. I usually take the bicycle out and ride down to whatever local grocery is nearby and stock up with whatever produce/meat I could fit in there. For now, it's canned goods, specials on an app, or extend the fasting period beyond the usual 16-20 hours!!

They've gone up a little but not nearly enough to compensate for the increases in food and now fuel. Then if your an O/O truck parts are more expensive. Everything seems to have increased in price. How much are those salads now in Loves? $7 $8?

At some point companies have to start paying exp drivers with clean records and who know what they are doing better. Something has to give. Salaries have to go up.

Here's a good example. OP says Loves was discussing raising the price of hotdogs to $5.99... That's an 80% increase in price. Take that and run 80% across the board on everything and anyone can see wages have to increase. They have to or a bunch of companies won't have drivers and will probably be out of business.

I used to take my breaks at a Costco if there’s one nearby and Can find a parking. $4 will get you a large slice of pizza, hot dog and a drink. No membership required to buy food at the deli.

Of course not - don't be ridiculous, but I am seeing some new things in job ads:

Hiring bonuses. Yeah, there have been bonuses forever, but this is a bonus paid just for going to orientation. The same job would also have a signing bonus. The hiring bonus is paid in full on your first check, the signing bonus is spread out over your first year.

Paid by the day, not the mile or the hour. You get a flat rate of $350/day whether you drive 8, 10 or 11 hours. You would still have to make all your assigned stops, but lets face it, you'd be driving a lot less than 11 hours most days.

Park your truck at the terminal OR take it home and use it for your daily commute to work. This was for a home daily, weekends off position. A lot cheaper to use the company's fuel to get to and from work.

    You call those "gourmet" :laughing3:

Loves likely gets them for $0.20 a pop.
