    i really dont want one of those things on my head all day..... a decent one is also kind of expensive, i have other things i'd rather spend money on. i once road in a truck with my boss driving, he doesnt have one of those things either. watching him drive a stick shift, knee holding the steering wheel, one hand on gearshift the other hand with the phone pressed to his ear. the only reason i was ridding with him, i left my truck at the plant (plant was backed up) with another driver.... and he was taking me back to the yard so i could go get another truck and load my 2nd set of farms.

    he's my boss so i said nothing, but i did think good grief. all i say is i now keep my phone usage to an absolute minimum while driving. the older DEA500 radio DID have functional, working phone usage.... the DEA700 is NOT an improvement. if the radio has phone call capability it should WORK acceptably.

    if it was my truck i would find a way to throw that DEA700 in the trash and install a decent pioneer or kenwood headunit. my wife has a prestine 97 grand prix, i installed a modern kenwood headunit with bluetooth, and i have a 2003 bonneville SSEi for a summer toy i installed a pioneer with bluetooth headunit. both pioneer and kenwood have decent hands free capability and i use it all of the time. both headunits were around 100 bucks each.

    one of the things i hate about those blue parrots, the drivers that wear them walk around with the stupid things all of the time. you cant tell if they are actually on the phone or not. annoying.

    You don’t have to wear it all day. I hang mine up and put it on when I get a call or want to make a call. I paired my phone to the truck when I got it in 2019 for about 10 minutes. The mic was on the pillar and I don’t ride with air in the seat. Tried calling 2 people and they said they couldn’t hear me. I never ever paired my phone to this new truck, have no idea where the mic is even located.

    Owning a bluetooth headset or earpiece doesn't mean you have to put it on your head when you wake up and it stays there until you hit the bunk. I hang my headset, a Blue Parrot 250, on something in the truck and can put it on or take it off with one hand. I only wear it when I use it. Your phone will connect to your headset if it is in range or you can use the speakerphone on your phone and not use any headset.

    We have several Peterbilt box trucks and 1 Pete tractor with DEA 500 radios with the mics mounted on the A piller and none of them work well for phone calls. The few times I tried to talk to someone they always said I sounded real far away

    I do connect my phone to them for streaming music and rarely have any problems with that.

    My 21 Volvo tractor also has a DEA 500 radio, but the mic is mounted above the visor pointed towards me and I can effectively talk on it. Occasionally someone will say they are having trouble hearing me but I just angle my head more towards the mic and that always alleviates the problem.

    I do have a Blue Parrot headset I use when driving the Pete's, my last one was over 10 years old and still worked well. I went through probably a dozen ear phone cushions, but it still works. I definitely got the company's money's worth out of that thing.

    I just recently replaced it with a new B350-XT headset just because my company asked if I wanted a new one. My wife says it's much quieter when I talk on it compared to my old one and it is more comfortable.

    I do not wear it outside of the truck and only wear it when talking on the phone. I don't consider it a fashion trend or a piece of jewelery.

    Glad none of our trucks have the newer radios, sounds like they are real junk!

    Are one of the cheaper bluetooth hands free usable. I'm not looking at spending 100 bucks on something like that. Not in today's inflationary economy. Not that I cant afford it but the money is better spent elsewhere. Looks like I can get something off Amazon for around 20 bucks
