No, no, no! Not talking about the livestock and agriculture smell! The smell of piss and crap!
The least they could do is maintain a basic, clean, facility for the public.

Umm, yeah. Livestock defecate and urinate outdoors :confused2::laughing9: The foul smell will often times come from cattle urine and feces when it has piled up in the fields and it gets old, rots, and if it gets wet from like rain or snow, the smell can be overtaking for some people. Fresh cow feces actually smells pretty good :) They also have a lot of wastewater treatment plants in Nebraska as well

If you are talking about their actual facilities, well some are more like outhouses and even so, yes it would be nice if places smelled better, but I mean you know how hard it is now not only clean up after your own #### kids, but full grown ### adults who can't clean up after themselves???? Just saying.

Sigh...I guess I'm not explaining myself correctly. So many times I've been to places where truckers
absolutely trash the facilities. Plastic water bottles full of HUMAN piss, stalls where clearly someone
doesn't CARE to flush after themselves, and generally unswept or unclean places. Yes, I understand
we are in the middle of farm country, for goodness' sake. I have relatives in Minnesota. But what I don't
understand is the lack of truckers who don't even care to treat a place with at least SOME respect. Gosh,
I'd hate to see how they treat their own bathrooms back home. (Shudders)

I'll never regret growing up in rural Wisconsin on a farm .
My mother never heard the words " I'm bored " and the minute she let me off the leash I was out the door not to be seen again until I was hungry , and it didn't matter what time of year it was .

Sadly rest areas seem to be on the way out.
Texas has gotten rid of quite a few. Mostly older ones. I really like the older rest areas.Remember stopping at them many years ago on family trips.
Makes me sad as I am sentimental about them.

I can agree that the rest areas in Nebraska are a bit lackluster… but there’s plenty of other places to stop to make up for it. Nebraska is quite an interesting state, not as boring as people make it out to be. Yes, I-80 can be a drag at times, but there’s always places to stop.

Just stay out of North Platte lol

I only wish I could've grown up entirely in the country on a farm :) Fantasy for me now though :( I might live in a trailer one day out in the middle of nowhere in Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, North Carolina, somewhere back down that way but at least I'll be away from the dang city life!! :)

It's extremely strange to me that people are actually arguing against having larger rest areas or more rest areas built, as well as keeping the existing rest areas cleaner than what they are now. This really is an OTR driver thing. Only OTR guys will advocate AGAINST their own self interests. This mindset was completely absent in the LTL world when I worked there last year. Whether it had to do with more truck parking, better pay, better working conditions, the LTL guys always welcomed these positive changes and advocated for themselves and their self intersets, as any healthy human being does.

It's just bizzare to me that this thread has filled up to 5 pages of arguing against having larger rest areas or new rest areas built in one of the most busiest and vital transportation stretch of interstate in the country. I'm not even going to attempt to try to understand that mindset.

And so, because me and other people believe that Nebraska's rest areas are not up to par with where they should be, the members in this thread have concluded:

    1. Drivers should drive the Northeast, as if everyone doesn't already know how bad the Northeast sucks. Yes, the Northeast sucks. That still doesn't change the fact that so do Nebraska's rest areas.

    2. What about the Farmers lands? Yeah well the farmers products don't get moved without us. It's a two way street. They'll be alright and they'll get paid what it's worth. Nebraska needs more or larger rest areas, it is what it is.

    3. Telling people not to drive in Nebraska if they don't like it. I can't find a single quote in this thread where anybody said they didn't like driving through Nebraska. The only thing that myself and others have said is that we agreed the rest areas in Nebraska are not up to par with where they should be. That doesn't mean we want to drive somewhere else or that we don't like Nebraska. How anybody came to the conclusion that others don't like driving through Nebraska or don't like the state, just because we said the rest areas aren't up to par, I have no clue. For the record I prefer driving the Midwest and out West and I love driving through Nebraska.

    4. Ranting and raving about California, with the Catmando guy insinuating that I am hiding my non existent Californian roots or something. Dude, you have 1500 posts in the 1 year you've been with the forum. So you obviously have time to go through my post history where you can clearly find me mentioning where I'm from. As far as others ranting and raving about California, seriously, grow up.

    5. Saying there's adequate parking in Nebraska. I disagree as far as I-80 is concerned. Parking does fill up. No I don't park on ramps, because I don't feel safe doing so. I also park at secure places that have access to bathrooms 24/7. I go inside to use the bathroom every single time unless it's an emergency, and that includes having to pee. So yes, I want 24/7 access to a bathroom when I park for the night. Having to pee in a bottle wouldn't be the end of the world in an emergency, but I especially like knowing that if I have to go #2, that I have access to a toilet. So wherever you guys are finding parking later at night, it's been my experience that the truck stops/rest areas that are open 24/7 with access to bathrooms, soap and water, do fill up at nighttime on I-80.

I think I about covered the responses to me. And something else that I just thought of, I've seen people on this website complain alot about people parking illegally in "make a spots". So if you guys don't like people making their own spots in the truck stop, then why would you argue against more legal truck parking being built?

Again, extremely bizzarre that forum members have compiled 5 full pages of arguing against having more rest area facilities, expanding the existing facilities and doing a better job of keeping the facilities clean. I have never seen a demographic of people who love to advocate against their own self interests as much as the OTR guys do on this website (in so many different ways). It's honestly very sad.
