Oh sure. 100%. Sometimes it makes sense to turn and burn, and sometimes it makes sense to drag your feet a little.

The cabover you see in the avatar, and everyone knows that cabovers are horrible on mileage, yielded 7.0 mpg for the 20 year life of the truck.
Stock Series 60 500HP 13 speed single over, 3:58 gears.
I checked it frequently against actual fill-ups and mileages, this fuel sensor happened to be exceptionally accurate.
Worst, 4.0 mpg hauling an open top frameless scrap trailer from Pennsylvania to Idaho.
Best. 10.1 mpg hauling a prototype 53 foot van for Frito-Lay from Kentucky trailer Louisville to Dallas to a trade show with every aerodynamic trick installed.

If you can slow down without impacting time/revenue schedules do it.
If the load pays well enough to put the $'s up the stack.. do that.

    T.Rucker Thanks this.
