Trucker stops to assist FHP trooper who was assaulted on florida interstate

That's not your problem. If you want to change that run for office.

Don't forget, cops vote too. Most of them in these blue areas, vote for Democrats. Muh union, pension, and dental.....

Although, I was pretty impressed when the NYPD union came out and backed Trump in 2020.

it becomes MY problem, when i need help as a retired senior citizen and all this defunding the police, and no cop gets to me fast, but a couple regular people do.

good thing i carry too, i'll start shooting any SOB that comes with in range of my capabilities...

I'm not agreeing with his stance, but he's not wrong that any bystander needs to be 100% sure their help is both wanted AND is done with minimum force.

Imagine this scenario:

• Cop is getting assaulted. Bystander attempts to help. Bystander pulls suspect apart from cop. Suspect flees and avoids capture. Is the Bystander going to be charged with obstruction?
• Cop is getting assaulted. Bystander pulls suspect off Cop, Cop pulls gun, shoots both
• Back up arrives and sees two men tusseling with a Cop. What happens next? Backup doesn't know who is doing what and they will react with maximum force.
• Bystander injures the suspect and the suspect sues. Plenty of case law on this one, and it's not good for the bystander.

In my personal experience, even approaching law enforcement while they are conducting a stop results in law enforcement over reacting. Any person getting between a cop and a suspect better think about how he is going to appear and the possible consequences.
