    Greetings!
I recently obtained my Georgia CDL learners permit. I have no experience driving trucks.
I was wondering if it is better for me to go to a CDL school and pay for this on my own or to go through one of the paid schools programs where I have to sign a contract to work 1 year for them in exchange? I don't really have any expectations for my first year as far as salary goes. If possible I would like to be able to go home each weekend so I can restock food supplies and get clean clothes...etc. I would prefer to be a solo driver as well. I was looking at Driver Solutions and Pam Transport. It is my understanding that if I leave the company before the contract is up I am responsible for paying the training costs associated with the school. What are the main topics I should be studying before I go to the CDL school so I am not lost. Pre-Trip inspection....etc. Any advice, pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Pam Transport is one of the last you want to mess with. Being a newbie wanting weekly hometime? You can about forget that. Contract? that crap can be avoided and should be. Swift, RE West, and a few others do CDL training w/no contract. Find one that pays you daily while in training for it. RE West is one of them. Chinatown on here is a great help with questions / companies.

Must live within 50 miles of a terminal and you're 27 miles away.

We offer a training program for newly licensed drivers.
We haul primarily government vehicles. Mainly oversized/overweight on open trailers.

Check out night linehaul LTL. Good mileage, plenty of windshield time, home most days. The money is better than OTR, too.
