Hey guys I’m completely new to this forum and looking for some advice.
As a new dad I’m leaving my current retail job at CVS there pay just isn’t there to raise a family.
I’ve been scrapped up my savings for a used truck and finally ready to jump in. As someone starting from step 1 with a cdl permit is there a specific type of truck to buy and sector of the industry you guys would recommend? My main goal is to make enough money to support my family and if there’s and option to be local so I can see my family it would be great.

You need to get some experience before you buy a truck .
you need to get that experience on someone else’s dime driving their truck .
there are usually many options for local driving .
If you’re a new dad. You need to stay local so you can be at home to raise your children .that’s the reason I quit trucking and got a normal job was to be home with my new family .
What other skills do you have ?
Every business is begging for workers , plumbing , hvac , electrical , welding etc
most of this trades pay as good or better than trucking once you factor in that every trucking company Expects you to work 70-80 hours a week .
be sure to factor that into any of the wage / salary offers .
Yea you can make more than your current job. But it’s likely going to be the same hourly rate , just working 70-80 hours a week .
Does your state have a CDL program at the community college?
your general location will also be useful for advice here .
And your driving record etc
as soon as @Chinatown steps in , he can offer some companies to try.
again, you have a lot to learn . And you can’t afford to learn it With your own money.
