Just because I hate most truck drivers doesn't mean that I don't like driving. Drove for JB Hunt for five years. Had my fifth wheel pin pulled countless times, air lines reversed, trailer tandem pin pulled doors opened. You name it another 'driver' has messed with my equipment. Talking to a driver at the Gary Indiana Ta. Asked me how much I made a year, told him how much he said who do you work for? I was making double what he was. Told him JB Hunt, he turned his back on me and said I don't talk to idiots. Laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. Have many more stories from other idiots I encountered.....I shake my head every day. But I really love my job, I just hate my co-workers.
If you had to start over...

After 27 years in the US Army and 19 as a JROTC Instructor I got into trucking to get away from supervising and leading people. Trucking is therapeutic and you only have to get the load from A-B safely and on time. To me this is a piece of cake and I only deal with my fellow drivers and a dispatcher. Hell life is good, but I paid my dues to be debt free and to own everything house, cars, and have a lil bit of change in my pocket. Doing this because I have a passion for it. Still a rookie driver though at 68 years young. Thanks fellow drivers for letting me a part of this profession. Shinny side up.

I will say 100% that having a class A CDL in your pocket is a great thing to have. You can go anywhere in this country, and have yourself a job in a week as long as you have your class A in good standing. For me, I had envisioned working flatbed then getting into specialized hauling. However, I was able to get into LTL right off the bat but knew soon after that going into the trades would be a better move. Having that class A helped me achieve that goal. I now work for a large public utility, but will still get behind the wheel once my body says no more of this grunt work out in the street lol. I think if I were doing long haul right now as I had first envisioned, I'd be missing out on way too much at home. So I'm glad I made a move early on to get into another field. I give major props to road warriors that spend 10mos out of the year OTR.
