Is there a way to get into OTR trucking without a driver trainer?

No apology needed. My teen son is, of course, half German-half Chinese and likes those Russian girls. I think he got that from when he attended school in China when we lived there and had some of those girls in his school. Lots of Chinese men marry Russian women. He saw their daughters and that picture stuck in his mind. I told him, that's great; maybe you'll meet a nice one when you attend
Tsinghua University (Chinese: 清华大学; pinyin: Qīnghuá Dàxué) after high school.

It's interesting to see the thoughts on a "trainer" from some when you get hired at a new company.

In the airline world, when you change companies, you have your Airline Transport Pilot license, which would be akin to the CDL in trucking. However, even though you have that license, you will still go through the new airline's training and you will fly with an instructor/line check airman for about a week before being released to the line. That training is called Initial Operating Experience (IOE) and it's where you learn to do things the way your new airline does things.

So, I understand why a new company would want a CDL holder, whether just out of school or years of experience somewhere else, to spend some time with a driver at the new company. Route familiarization, terminal familiarization and procedures and their version of safety and compliance needs to be trained for the new company.
