    Hi everyone,

I’ve read about low icp pressure no start all the time, but I have high icp pressure no start issues. 98 dt466, single ecm plug firewall mounted. I don’t have access to a scanner that provides live data, only code reading and clearing

Truck turns over great, and if I spray ether it will start and run on its own when it get going. Although it will run, fuel cuts out for a plot second every 5 seconds or so. Turn it off, it won’t restart. I removed the ICP sensor and put a gauge in, it immediately jumps up to 4000 psi when you crank it over. I thought that was strange so I unplugged the IPR to see if it would make a difference, but the engine won’t even turn over with is unplugged? Reconnect the plug and I hear one of the relays by the ECM energize and it will turn over again

Everything I’ve read, the 2 wires going to the IPR shouldn’t have anything to do with it being able to turn over. Thank you in advance for any help

I would measure fuel pressure while cranking. Should have at least 20 psi, 35 is spec.

I’ll try that tomorrow. Someone has replaced the factory fuel filter housing with something else. Has a quick connect fitting for testing I’m assuming, not sure if I have the appropriate connector

Can you plumb a gauge into the high pressure oil line with it connected.
If tone of the top O-rings on an injector fails it can cause hard start no start problems.

Yes you can take the line off, go to a hydraulic shop and get a new line made with a "T" fitting and install a 10,000 psi gauge. Just so you know, if it will not build pressure to start, it will log a code for that. If you have no codes I would say you have a fuel problem. When you crank the engine, does the tach so any RPM and does the oil pressure gauge start to show some pressure after cranking for several seconds?

I didn’t have a “t”, but checked pressure at the rail where ICP is. Reads 4000 psi cranking over

has codes for ICP pressure too high while cranking

oil pressure on dash does raise to above 20 while turning engine

If this will not crank unless the ipr is plugged in, then something is not wired right. The IPR plug will have 12 volts battery power at key on on pin A. This comes from the ECM gray connector, pin 17. Pin B at the IPR is the control which goes to the ECM gray connector pin 37. The ECM will supply constant 12 volts and pulse the control wire to ground to generate the pressure. If the pump makes 4000 psi all the time then you have short to ground in the control wire which could be rubbed through somewhere, to another wire, or internal ECM fault too.
