I read somewhere that there was that many just in the first quarter of this year! I’m too lazy to look for it right now. Give me a tasty drink and I may find motivation.

This part will happen slower than most think. There’s too much backlog in orders. Cancelations for the most part will do nothing in the beginning. Maybe if the downturn presists.

I see it mentioned all the time in stories about trucks depending solely on brokers not going to make it. Any 1 truck operation ought to be able to thrive using brokers for 100% of their freight in good times and bad. Self dispatching 1 truck should be a piece of cake for anybody that's done it a few years. Now a small fleet changes things. There's no way in the world I would want to depend 100% on brokers with a small fleet. Hired drivers and even leased o/o changes things and that's just not a recipe for long term success IMO.

Also rarely mentioned when articles talk about massive amounts of new authorities they don't point out that for the most part there aren't really any new trucks entering the business. There's a bunch of drivers playing musical chairs jumping from carrier to carrier or leaving an employee job altogether and starting their own trucking business. Almost every company out here has 90% turnover. Old drivers retiring and newbies burning out when they figure out what bull**** peanuts pay and long hours trucking is are constantly replaced by more newbies. The actual pool of working drivers stays about the same. There hasn't been much if any real new truck capacity hitting the highways in the past 2 years due to production line delays and shortages.

I think all these new authorities are mostly because of ab5 law that’s coming into effect. People need somewhere to go. I started mine in 2021 too.

"So many businesses colluding to set high prices.

I just priced windows and doors in my house.

    3 windows a sliding door and 2 doors. $30,000.

    WTF?

10,000 percent markup. Maybe $2,000 in materials. Maybe. I priced one window if I did it myself for $200"

It seems a lot of these new entrants and drivers are from third world countries.I think the mega carriers are sponsoring , or atleast recruiting in these areas. Truck stops look like third world refugee camps. These people are used to living cheap and not making much and can ride out tough times easier than you think. It truly is a shame what trucking has become. I hope things get better , it usually does, in normal times, these aren’t normal times , it’s almost like a full on assault on everything that has made this country great. We’ll get through it, we always do , but this one might be tougher.
